It was also a well placed location for our visit the Racho Cortez to do some riding. Wish I could have stayed longer in Bandera.

As a family, we're always on the hunt for places with a bit of character, and this spot absolutely delivered. First off, its retro-chic vibe is just super charming. You really do feel like you've zipped back to the '80s, but in the best possible way. It's a proper escape from the usual humdrum of modern city life, despite being right in the thick of things. Location-wise, it's brilliant – really close to the city centre and nestled in a rather trendy part of town. Plus, and this is always a win for families, they offer free parking, which is a definite bonus. The staff couldn't have been friendlier, and we were quite impressed with their rather clever messaging system before and after check-in; it made everything super smooth. One of the highlights for us was stumbling upon their full moon pool party. What a laugh! The kids (and us, to be fair) had an absolute blast splashing about. And for the most important bit, especially after a busy day of exploring: the beds were incredibly comfortable. We were in a building out back, and it was wonderfully quiet, ensuring a truly relaxing night's sleep for everyone. All in all, the Austin Motel is a unique little find, and we'd genuinely recommend it for families looking for something a bit different.
