Great view from the 7th floor on the mountain range, very varied breakfast buffet, nice semi-private eating arrangements for breakfast and dinner, staff very friendly, the private onsens were often available for use and not overflowing with waiting guests although we were there only a few days before peak fall foliage. We liked the "only refill amenities" service (instead of a full room cleaning) because it gave us privacy while still giving us refills for towels, sweets etc :)

Located in the Naruko hot-spring area, Hotel Kameya offers Japanese-style accommodations with relaxing public indoor and outdoor hot-spring baths. An indoor hot-spring bath with large windows and mountain views is available on the 6th floor. A free shuttle is available from JR Naruko Onsen Train Station, which is also a 15-minute walk away.

Faded grandeur, once a pretty fancy hotel it is now a bit tatty around the edges but that is part of it's charm, lovely big rooms. It's a long way from the station, don't try to walk it if your bag is heavy, just get a taxi. Good ramen place next door. There is a shuttle bus to take you back to the station on departure.

The hotel is located right in the center of town so it was easy to walk everywhere. The futons were more like mini-mattresses, so they were very comfy. Our stay included breakfast and dinner - the dinners were amazing! The kaiseki meal was beautifully presented and every bite was delicious! The first floor lounge was comfortable with happy hour beverages available for guests.

Looking for a property with onsen?

Featuring traditional Japanese hot springs known as ‘onsen’, these hotels allow you to take a relaxing soak in therapeutic geothermal waters. Traditionally, onsens were located outdoors but a number of hotels also offer indoor facilities for private or shared use. The healing properties of each onsen will vary depending on its location, with ‘kuroyu’ black water known for its positive effects on skin.

Nice Onsen. Dinner and breakfast were very good. We liked the traditional Japanese dinner. Every dish is good like fine dining. Breakfast spread has lots of varieties. There’s local dessert like mochi and it’s so delicious. Of course there’s the mains which are all very good. There’s shuttle bus to fetch us to the nearest train station

Great location in pretty little town with a few onsen hotels, close to station. Buffet breakfast and dinner good with plenty of choice whether japanese or western. Some great walks nearby and amazing views with leaves turning in October.

Very lovely traditional Japanese house with own onsen bath. It is a private home, so no staff etc and you must be prepared to communicate with the owner in Japanese (we managed with Google translate, no problem).

3 comfortable bed rooms with clean bed facilities (bed sheets, pillow, pillow covers are all clean) We relaxed in a big living room. Also it has onsen water so bath time was great. Towels are also clean. You don’t have to bring any towels. We cooked dinner and breakfast at a kitchen. It has basic seasoning such as soy sauce, oil (normal and olive oil), sugar, salt, flour, curry powder and barbecue sauce. There are lots of dishes. No oven, but there are microwave and kettle (tifal) and rice cookers.
