I highly recommend this place! The room had everything you needed, a cozy courtyard overlooking the mountains. Excellent house wine in the evening and a very tasty breakfast. Thanks to the hospitable owner and staff. When we are there again, we will stay with you.

The family were all wonderful and helpful. We visited in the winter which is likely not peak season for the area, it’s when my son had time off from school and we wanted to visit the area. It was pretty cold out and pretty much stayed to our room to keep warm. There is a nice balcony and it looks as though you could go on a nice walk if interested. As we were leaving we asked if she could fill our water bottles and she returned with the water plus a bag of apples. Which made a nice snack on our visit to Vardzia Caves.

Everything was good enough 👍 Easy to find (seen from the road), nearby the Vardzia, surrounded by mountains. There is an own parking. Nice design of the guest house including the apartment interior, exterior as well as the dining hall. The chill out area in front of the apartment is supplied with a fountain. The host offers dinners and breakfasts (at an extra cost). They also offer Khikhvi wine made in their winery - a decent one , I recommend. They plan to invest and enhance the space: add more apartments, plant a vineyard etc.

Staying in Vardzia for 3 nights at Gvala was a great decision. Most people do day tours to the caves and only spend 1.5 hours or so before eating at the restaurant and leaving back to Tbilisi or Kutaisi. That is a lot of driving for a rushed tour of a massive cave city complex. If you're coming this far, stay overnight and do so at Gvala. The photos of the area don't do it justice, as the landscape is more dramatic than we expected. There is some nice hiking/ walking opportunities from the entrance to the caves and fortress ruins worth visiting. The area is in the countryside and was a refreshing break from the rest of our busy trip. There's no bank or atm in the area so make sure to bring enough cash with you. Tomas and his wife were very nice hosts and extremely generous with their food and wine (and chacha). Breakfast (20 GEL) and dinner (30 GEL) were delicious and there was always more than enough food. Everything is homemade including the honey, jam, and wine. For one dinner they brought us terrific kinkhali from a local restaurant. Tomas was helpful shuttling us in the area and we even had an after hours visit to the local sulfur bath. They also helped us with our laundry for free. Saba, their grandson who helps them over the summers, is very attentive and fun. He speaks excellent English and was very helpful for us when communicating with his grandparents. Whenever we were relaxing he was offering us complimentary coffee, tea, and juicy watermelon to snack on. We had a great time and are very happy we stayed at Gvala.

The Grandmother... The property manager's son was in hospital so his grandmother was there.. she took care of us and was the most helpful and caring, she remaind us with the old hard working grandmothers in our villages... At the evening they gave us a bottle of red wine as a gift (we hate wine) but the wine they gave is THE BEST WINE we ever had in our life!!!!! The evening we stayed there was very Cold around (-18°) the lovely grandma was so caring that she brought us her our heater and checked on us... The property is good, but the wine is great and the people are AMAZING!!! soon we will be back!

We were traveling with a dog and this place is pet friendly, that's why I decided to book it. The room and shared bathroom were very clean, there is a spectacular view from the terrace on a second floor. The hosts are hospitable, they own a farm and made us a perfect breakfast as well as a dinner (for an extra pay) from homemade products. Everything was fresh and cooked with love so I definitely recommend it! Would like to stay here again if I go to this region one more time.

We arrived at the location very late, but the owners still made us an amazing dinner. And breakfast was so good and big it kept us going thru the whole day. Our room was very spacious and had all the amenities.
