A great place to stay with a very welcoming family. Emi was so kind and willing to help! Also, it was really close to the beach (5 min by bike) and you could rent surfboards and the bikes were free to use. Would highly recommend to stay here if you're in Aoshima!

Located in Gokase, 47 km from Mount Aso, Guesthouse EL CAMPO features a bar and views of the mountain. This guest house provides free private parking and bicycle parking. Stunning! Well thought out private dwelling, with juliet balcony where your bed is. Little kitchenette, with fridge. The bathroom is big and well planned out. There is a wood burning stove in the corner of the room so you can make it warm and cosy (there is also a heater/ac/fan, for all temps!). We were only there one night and paid to have an evening meal there. Four courses cooked by the owner, all locally sourced, delicious! Highly recommend this place. I wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy the hiking in the nearby national park.

Set 29 km from Totoro-kō, Le Lodge Mimitsu offers a garden, and air-conditioned accommodation with a balcony and free WiFi. By far the best place we stayed on our road trip. So incredible and the facilities were top notch! Wish we could've stayed more cause we didn't expect it to be so beautiful. Check-in was super easy and I loved the hand written notes with my name on it. Made it very welcoming. Definitely would recommend.

Located in Hyuga and only 24 km from Totoro-kō, Guesthouse ＆ Beach Cafe Fuego provides accommodation with sea views, free WiFi and free private parking. Very close to the beach, great if you want to surf. The family that runs it are incredible, super welcoming friendly and informative about the area. A great place to stay will hopefully return in the future. Big shout out to Yukie for being wonderful! And helping with my japanese.

Located in Miyazaki, The Little Garden offers beachfront accommodation 1.4 km from Cape Iruka and provides various facilities, such as a garden and a shared lounge. It is provided everything so I didn't have to worry about towels or toilet supplies. Also coffee and tea are free. The whole place is tidy and neat. And the view is the most beautiful I've ever seen. On the other hand, I have to highlight the kindness of the owner, she was so helpful. Definitely I'd stay again there, it worths it.

Opened in April 2014 after a thorough renovation, this ryokan features spacious guest rooms surrounded by tranquil mountains. The food was excellent and the staff were attentive and helpful. We had rented a car and in the morning we found that the staff had placed a cover over the wind screen to prevent frost from forming. We were impressed by their attention to detail.

Featuring 5-star accommodation, Ryokan Shinsen is located in Takachiho, 600 metres from Takachiho Shrine and 1.8 km from Takachiho Gorge Freshwater Fish Aquarium. Let me start with the location. Rekan is very conveniently situated — right near Takachiho Shrine, close to the bus station, and just a short walk from a local market with souvenirs and regional products. There are also cafés and restaurants nearby. It’s not far from Takachiho Gorge, and overall, there’s always somewhere nice to walk and explore. The hotel has its own parking as well. The room was excellent — clean, spacious, fully equipped, with a generous selection of complimentary snacks and drinks. There’s a private onsen and a small garden that you can enjoy. Honestly, I didn’t even want to leave my room. The staff were extremely polite and friendly. Always ready to help — they personally advised me on the best places to book in the city and recommended where to go. They were genuinely interested in my trip and eager to assist. Both dinner and breakfast were outstanding. I overate every time. The staff kindly explained and presented everything with such care that I even felt a bit awkward from their overwhelming politeness. It’s a wonderful place, and I’d love to return again.

Offering free WiFi and free private parking, The triangle hub Miyazaki is located in Miyazaki, within just 1.4 km of Miyazaki Station. This is the best apartment that I have stayed in my 2-week vacation in Kyushu. Unfortunately, we only stayed 1 night (original was 2 nights) as our flight from Yakushima island was cancelled due to bad weather. Rather than flying, we took the Toppy jetfoil. Host was kind enough to adjust our stay from 2 nights to 1 night. This place has everything and better amenities/facilities than hotels. Very good experience.
