This was such an unforgettable experience. We were supposed to stay for just one night but ended up staying 4! Okay, from the beginning. We had different accommodation in Hakuba, but we weren’t satisfied so we were looking for something else and found Dark Horse by chance. The moment we walked into the house, we were greeted with smiles and warmth. Andy, Rika, Momo and Hana create something truly special. We’ve stayed at hundreds of hotels and such, but this one will stay in our hearts for a long time. Everything is well thought out, you can see it’s taken care of down to the smallest detail, you can see it’s done properly and not just to be the cheapest. We felt so beautifully hosted. They also have an amazing sake collection to try, and the food is delicious too. Thank you again and we already miss it. I hope we’ll get the chance to meet again. PS. Akiko is a wonderful host she surprised us with ice cream. The kids loved the roomy apartment and having their own room. This was a wonderful place to stay run by wonderful people. We had a kitchen to make a meal at home something we were missing.

It looked exactly like the photos. The "onsen" was a big plus after a day of hitting the slopes. We will definitely recommend this property.

Hands down the best hospitality we have ever experienced. Maki is the most gracious of any host we have ever had. Excellent food (lots of it). This accommodation is worth planning an entire trip around. 2 private onsens. A massage chair. It was our first time with a traditional Japanese futon and we were surprised how comfortable sleeping was. Beautiful scenery and the most hospitable hosts (Maki, her mom the chef and Kenta the house pup) Thank you for an unforgettable stay! We can’t wait to come back again someday.

The room and the public spaces were always neat. The staff are pleasant and very accommodating. The general vibe was exceptional, including amongst other guests. I’m a solo female traveler and stayed in the mixed dormitory but I had 0 discomfort. The host runs several shuttles in the mornings to drop off patrons in the morning, so we can then take the town shuttle to get to different ski resorts etc, as well as evening shuttles to pick you up from town and take you back to the guesthouse.
