- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 220 reviewsThis hotel is quaint and magical, with splendid views of the Wolfgangsee and surrounding mountains along the lakeside path, which you can walk almost the entire distance to St. Gilgen if you like. If you prefer, the ferry stops right next to the hotel. Staff was exceptional and offered ferry tickets at reception. I won't ruin the surprise, but check-out was a nice experience as well. I did not engage in much hiking, but guests receive literature at check-in about the myriad trails of different lengths and levels of challenge, accessible from right at the hotel. I have not been to Hallstatt, but the Wolfgangsee area seems like an excellent alternative without quite as many tourists (but still a lot). Don't forget to take the sielbahn to the Zwölferhorn for stunning 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains, including Zugspitze. St. Gilgen in general is a nice, quaint town with upscale shopping as well as touristy kitch. This stay was well worth the price in my opinion, as it was an unforgettable experience filled with glorious natural beauty and wonderful, luxurious Austrian hospitality.Guest review byBrian PhillipsUnited States
- From $331.36 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 296 reviewsWe felt like we were on a movie set! Everything was picture-perfect including the rooms, the walks around the hotel, the walks into town, and the terrace for breakfast. We were greeted by one of the owners who spoke great English and was very welcoming. We were given a personal tour and were walked to our room. We had special requests that were met with smiles. We would love to visit here again!Guest review byJosephUnited States

It is a residential town so not much atmosphere or amenities other than hotels. It suited us very well as it was very peaceful. Driving or taxi into Salzburg is the best option. Otherwise a bus or taxi to an out of town shopping centre plus a bus from there. We parked out the out of town shopping centre for dinner and got a parking ticket. It was not well advertised that we should have paid for parking. Nothing to do with the hotel but be warned!Guest review byCarolynUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Sankt Gilgen was lovely - picture postcard beautiful with plenty to do to keep us busy (lake and mountains walks, boat rides, trains, cable cars). Visiting in September, we found it very quiet at night with very few restaurants open, particularly on a Monday and Tuesday. Finding somewhere to eat on spec is difficult and we would strongly recommend pre-booking if you want to eat out.Guest review byClaireUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Walk around the Bürglstein is very nice and calming.
Walk around the Bürglstein is very nice and calming. City itself is much calmer than the other ones (St. Gilgen and St. Wolfgang), but still there is everything what would you need, water fun, grocery store, ice cream stand.Guest review byJarda RysCzech Republic - 10.0

The staff and hospitality, the effort they made to speak to me in English, they even brought me breakfast out to the patio, everyone else was inside the dining hall, I wanted to enjoy the nice fall weather, by the way the breakfast was easily worth $35.00Guest review bySyedUnited States - 10.0

A beautiful, rural area ten minutes by car from Old Town Salzburg. The 180 degree view from the Gasthof Maria Plain hotel terrace, and from the balcony of room #20 which we had, captures sweeping pastoral greenery in the foreground, behind which is the city of Salzburg with the iconic fortress on the berg, back-dropped by the soaring Austrian Alps. And the sky at night is spectacular! Want an authentic taste of Austrian Gemütlichkeit? This is your place!Guest review byDanaUnited States - 10.0

The place was large, spotless and great care has been taken to ensure guests’ comfort and convenience with a more than adequately equipped kitchen. I t is in a quiet and peaceful location with green fields and wonderful views of the mountains. Parking is provided at the front. The hosts are helpful and responsive. Whilst there is a bus service at the end of the street I think a car is probably essential for a short stay as supermarket and Salzburg are a drive away. A few basic toiletries in the bathroom would be appreciated as well.Guest review bySerenaAustralia - 8.0
Beautiful scenery and the views across the lake are amazing.
Beautiful scenery and the views across the lake are amazing. Limited supermarket facilities and quite expensive - worth shopping further afield if you have a car. Check restaurant opening times as some were closed when you might expect them to be open, and make a reservation during busy seasons (school holidays) !Guest review bySimonUnited Kingdom - 8.0

The Hof bei Salzburg itself is a beautiful peasefull village, very calm and quiet. Lots of supermarkets and DM store available and located in the village. In the evening after 7 pm everithing pretty closed, so make your shopping in advance.Guest review byElenaIsrael - 10.0
the staff is amazing
the staff is amazing To things are subjects for improvement First 1.enrich the breakfast 2.There is no refrigerator and safe in the rooms, in my opinion this is a big drawback, a hotel with excellent service like the Kammel needs a safe and a refrigerator in the room for the comfort of the guestsGuest review byNIZARIsrael - 10.0
A perfect holiday location.
A perfect holiday location. The village has lots of character, a weekly market, cable car, mountain walks, swimming in very clear lake, and relyable bus service to wider surroundings and beautiful baroque city of Salzburg.Guest review byMariettaUnited Kingdom
