- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.7Excellent - What previous guests thought, 746 reviewsThe location can not be better. The apartment had an excellent view of the lake and the mountains, a huge balcony, 2 rooms with plenty of space, full kitchen with everything you need. The spa section was extremely nice and clean. The resting room view is as beautiful as it can be. I recommend it to everyone. There are also great restaurants and cafes around within few minutes walk distance. You can walk around the lake or just hike to the castle ruins at the hill behind the hotel. With 15-20 mins walk, you will have the best panorama view of the region.Guest review byCemGermany
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.1Very Good - What previous guests thought, 984 reviewsThe rooms are nice and cozy, with that old charm. Everything was clean, comfortable, and had a homey feel that made it even more relaxing. There are no toilets/showers in the rooms, but the shared facilities are close, warm, and private when you are in them. There's no risk of someone walking in while you shower for example. Food was also excellent, I would even advise that the portions are very generous! The salad was amazing, and over delivered on quantity and taste. Really was the icing on the cake so to say.Guest review byBrianCzech Republic
- From $374.11 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 584 reviewsThis is the most gorgeous setting of all the hotels during my month long Europe vacation! The hotel is decorated perfectly for the beautiful mountain setting. The dinners and breakfasts were amazing, so glad we included them in our stay. It was nice after a day of hiking to know we didn't have to look for a place for dinner - our hotel had probably the best option around for miles! The staff was extremely helpful for hiking and adventure suggestions also.Guest review byJenniferUnited States
- From $204.76 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.0Very Good - What previous guests thought, 3,707 reviewsWe arrived at the hotel as the hotel we booked was double booked and we couldn’t find available hotels that could receive us after 22:00. So happy we arrived at this hotel as it was such a nice hotel. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Breakfast was wonderful and very rich. They have a park garage underneath the hotel for a fee. We went to visit the castles and they kept our luggage and we could use the parking garage till 18:00.Guest review byAnikó SimonsNetherlands
- From $451.74 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.6Excellent - What previous guests thought, 111 reviewsOur daughter has celiac disease and we chose this hotel because of all the gluten-free options for food. The view from our room balcony was amazing, all of the staff were amazing and the location was the best. We stayed here with our 10 year old daughter and there were some families with younger children, but the crowd was mostly older couples. We found that a plus because everyone was very respectful and it was a peaceful, quiet stay.Guest review byKrisUnited States

Stay near center. Ride E-bike around lake (ca 35 km). Swim in lake! Visit castle but only hike up there if your joints/heart can handle it. It’s very steep and ca 40 min walk up hill. Beautiful town :)Guest review byEmilyNetherlands - 10.0

Hohenschwangau is a very busy and very touristy place,...
Hohenschwangau is a very busy and very touristy place, especially in summer but you can still enjoy the area and visit the castles if you plan things a little. Firstly, I strongly suggest you book your tickets in advance as you must visit the castles at an appointed time. Secondly, in spite of the fact that you only have barely half an hour inside Neuschwanstein Castle and 45 minutes at Hohenschwangau Castle, the lead up times (how long it takes to get there from Hohenschwangau village, and then how far in advance you need to be at the Castle gates), you will find that you will probably take close to an entire day to visit both Castles! Allow at least 3 hours for Neuschwanstein (queue for the bus, walk to Marienbrucke for a spectacular view, be at the Castle entrance at least 15 minutes before entry, 30 minutes for the tour, another 30-40 minutes for the walk downhill), and at least 2-3hrs for Hohenschwangau Castle). While you cannot plan the weather, obviously for the best views over the lakes and the countryside will be in sunshine, but there's no reason you cannot enjoy the castles even in rain or snow, however transportation may be limited in some weather. It's a long slog up the hill to walk to Neuschwanstein (not so bad for Hohenschwangau) so recommend spending the EUR 3.50 per person to take the bus (pretty scary windy drive!) or splurge and take the horse drawn carriage! It's a nice walk down from both castles. Lots of places to stop for a snack or a meal in Hohenschwangau but of course at tourist prices!Guest review byRobinAustralia - 8.0

Magical place to stay for winter holidays, surrounded with lots of ski and tobogganing tracks, great communication with another villages. Food scene quite limited , same as night entertainment, I would rather to have a bit more of this to spend betters nights.Guest review byvitelio enrique - 10.0
I did not enter any of the castles or museums.
I did not enter any of the castles or museums. I had done that 50 years ago, as a student in Munich. I liked just walking around, soaking up the tourist vibe, predominantly Chinese. I even liked the rainy-sunny mix of weather, so characteristic of the Allgaue region.Guest review byDavidUnited States - 10.0
We loved the tiny town with everything so close by.
We loved the tiny town with everything so close by. It was so clean and the people really lovely. It was fantastic catching up with family after 28 years!! We had the best breakfast at Hotel Lowen and a really great pizza and pasta night at I’ll Castro . Very good value and excellent traditional food. We used Nesselwang as a base and daily went on trips. We visited Salzburg, Innsbruck , Lake Konigsee, Lake Konstanz, Heididorf in Switzerland and so much more.Guest review byTessa Van vulpenAustralia - 10.0

This is a great area if you like a quiet village, nature, walking, hiking, biking, swimming in nearby lakes. My hotel, Alpenblick, was a perfect location for all of this. Having a car helps, but there are buses to most places in the area and train connections from nearby towns. One big hub is Steingaden from where you can get to most places. This area is a good place to slow down, relax, recuperate if you are living in a fast paced city and all that it entails. People are friendly and helpful if the hotel staff are anything to go by.Guest review bySpJGermany - 10.0

We loved staying in an apartment in the same building that the family was living in, in a rural location close to hiking. The family was wonderful and told us much about the area which was fascinating to us. We had a car, so that was very good since there are not many options for public transportation from the little village. Our main goal was to visit the Tannheim area with its famous cow parade every September which we did. We enjoyed being able to prepare our own food in the apartment kitchen.Guest review byNancyUnited States - 8.0

A small, quiet town (or big village!) but excellently located for many kms of walking and cycling routes (and cross-country skiing in Winter - I was there in late May, but would like to return in winter), covering easy to hard options; Also close to two lovely lakes (the Vilsalpsee and the Haldensee)Guest review byFerryenoUnited Kingdom - 10.0

The beautiful hotel Schwarzenbach is highly recommended, we will come back soon! Very friendly staff/service, clean, lovely breakfast, very good cook, beautiful view to the lake and the rolling hills...... We had a tour inside the Castle of Neuschwanstein, went to Reutte/Austria and to Oberammergau near Zugspitze. The dark beer King Ludwig is my favorite!Guest review byChristianeGermany
