Low-key vibe to the area and town.
Low-key vibe to the area and town. Not at all built up, considering it is a popular destination. Loads of great restaurants, accommodation and shops to choose from. Recommend using Byron Bay kayaks for watching the whales and dolphins, a highlight of my trip! Went to Bang Bang restaurant (Asian sharing - good food but noisy) and the Treehouse (great food). We had a car and managed to visit neighbouring towns and beaches, which were also low-key with original buildings, so quaint.Guest review byDebbieNew Zealand - 6.0

We arrived at night in drkness so it was difficult to get a fix on location and most things were closed as it was winter. However, it was a lovely harbour and area during the daylight to walk and grab a coffee.Guest review byFionaUnited Arab Emirates - 10.0

Port is a lovely town in the coast with beaches, tourist attractions, a large array of accommodation, shopping centers & eateries. it is suitable for lone travellers, couples or families. The locals are friendly & helpful. Would recommend Port Macquarie for a 7 to 10 day break.Guest review byMichelleAustralia - 10.0
Didn't stay long enough, just stopped for one night.
Didn't stay long enough, just stopped for one night. Had dinner at RSL in the cafe which was good, but later found out they had specials which staff didn't mention the locals told us after. Staff at front door were friendly. Unfortunately weather wasn't the best so didn't do much looking around. Next time will stay longer.Guest review byGemenis - 10.0

Lovely, relaxed, beautiful place, lots of great places to walk to. We had breakfast at the local Bakehouse which was really nice and had evening meals at the Golf Club and at the Mexican on Coldstream St. Visited the nearby town of MacLean which was really nice too, especially interesting for anyone with Scottish heritage. We saw lots of dolphins at Convent Beach and there were lots of great places to do whale watching. Watching the sunrise from the lighthouse was stunning.Guest review byNat TAustralia - 6.0

Forster is like many other NSW North Coast towns, recreation facilities abound as you are surrounded by Oceans & Lakes. Shopping is mainly centred at the Stockland Mall which is a short car ride away from the centre of town & Beach-side accommodation. There are plenty of Clubs & Pubs for entertainment & if you take yer Fishing Gear you'll be set like a jelly. If you happen to enjoy Oysters the lakeside Oyster Barn is there for your convenience as are many restaurants.Guest review byCapt. Robert McKay GrayAustralia - 8.0

We needed a place for the night which was clean and comfortable and the Blue Pelican suited all our requirements as we were not on holiday, just passing through on a long journey. The bed was comfortable, and the rooms was clean and neat. The Club across the road was just right. The BIstro was very well priced and we had a good choice of meals but enjoyed a roast pork dinner.Guest review byMarilynAustralia - 2.0

Stay away - drunk or drugged out body in the foyer we had to step over to get to the lift when we first arrived after a flight and drive. "Welcome to the Paradiso". Then our keys would open the verandah - but not open the room itself. Over an hour we stood outside our room on the phone late at night with management - useless. The room through the window looked like squatters were hiding in there - non existent security. Lucky we had a car and could find other accomodation late at night. Thank God for reputable businesses elsewhere.... and here we are over 3 weeks later and they still won't refund our money. And no mention of helping with the extra $600 we had to fork out to get accomodation so late up the road! Beware Beware Beware. And if you do go there - ask to try your key on other units - it's handy because it gives you free access to other peoples verandahs - brilliant.Guest review byLynetteAustralia - 8.0

its changing and seems to have had a influx of younger people for the better. we ate at the indian which was fabulous food and Matildas for pizza. I love the walk around the river and out past the golf course. Its very pretty and not crowded. We have land on this town as our halfway point north and its always a pleasant stay and the town itself is set well over various aspects of the river and has a few really nice cafes like the wharf cafe for breakfast.Guest review byCatherineAustralia - 8.0

I attended a VWGA golf tournament from Sunday to Wednesday and experienced a friendly atmosphere and the golf course was very challenging but nice to play. Any golfers I would recommend to travel to Taree to play a round or two. Access to everything easy. Would recommend the Sailo's restaurant on the river bank for a meal.Guest review byVirginniaAustralia
