Food and service at Sani was very good. Train journey to Plovdiv good and very cheap. Trail walks good. Asenovgrad is changing rapidly, new buildings generally look really good. I think every Bulgarian must visit the Museum of Vasil Levski - it is kind of mandatory, we are obliged as descendants of those brave men. The other place that charmed us was a restaurant called "Едно време" (Once Upon a Time). Visited for hiking to Balkan Mts, Botev Peak. Enjoyed our stay and the mountain. Imposing Socialist monument at the centre of the town. Nice restaurant at the very center. Nice draft beer and nice surrounding. Other restaurants of Kalofer were closed at the afternoon. We were surprised with the road network of Bulgaria which is in very good condition. Perushtitsa is a small picturesque town, located at the outskirts of Rhodope Mountains. There are several tourist trails that start from the center of the town to the nearby mountains. Perushtitsa played a key part in Bulgarian history during the 1876 uprising against the Ottoman rule and during the Unification of Bulgaria with Eastern Rumelia. There is a museum at the center of the town and several historical places in the city. A tasteful mix of the very old and the very modern. The old city is beautiful and fascinating. The open spaces and water features very attractive. Historical sites are easily accessible a well looked after. Some require a bit of a climb so be prepared for that. The restaurants are varied and the food we tried all good. Some of the waiting staff need a little more training such as asking if you're finished with a dish or a drink before removing it! This is a great place to visit. My son broke my camera, so I have only half memories documented. More to that, mineral water was off on our second day of staying.
