Although I only spent about 8 hours here, I had a wonderful experience. The staff waited up for me as my bus from Uyuni arrived late. The lady working at reception helped me organize my bus for the next morning, brought me an extra blanket, and even made me herbal tea, which she delivered to my room. The hospitality and good price make this place a great option if you're exploring Tupiza or just stopping for the night like me.

I liked that the property was off the beaten path, away from the downtown core and they had bikes you can ride around. The old trains are like 2 blocks away from the hotel so you can walk over on sunrise and be the only people there. The staff are incredible - the food at the restaurant is great too. I had a few dietary restrictions and they accommodated them all. I thought it was really sweet that I purposely left a jacket in my hotel room upon check out cause it wouldn’t fit in my suitcase and they quickly got a hold of me and offered to mail it to me at my next destination. They also drove me to the airport free of charge.

I had a wonderful stay at Casa de Aal Hotel in Uyuni! The location was ideal—just two blocks from the main square, yet very quiet and peaceful. The breakfast was ample and delicious, and I especially appreciated the great coffee each morning. The top floor was a highlight, with a warm sitting area featuring a stove and a jacuzzi—perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring. The staff were friendly and made everything easy. I’d definitely stay here again!

Loved this hotel its unique, great location and very big free breakfast buffet. They let us checkin early and also arranged an airport taxi for us. Rooms are really really big and comfy. Only downfall is not every room has ac so we actually switched rooms. Both equally nice. Would recommend to stay here! We had only one night and booked a day trip to the salt flats. One night in the town of Uyuni was enough for us as it’s kind of in shambles.

Potosí is all about Cerro Rico and its vast mining operations, historically base for the region’s and the Spanish wealth. Today, Potosí has lost the base of its wealth, but still has some charm. A visit to the mines is highly recommended and should be done with appreciation of the thousands of miners still try to make a living from the mountain.

Colchani is best for upscale lodgings for visiting the Salar. The only recommended places to eat are at the hotels. But make sure you bring all you need from Uyuni before you stay at Colchani. But souvenirs and beautiful wool clothing you can get at the market in Colchani.

We went two days to see see some pretty well-pronounced dinosaur footprints, the Umajalanta Caverns and Ciudad de Itas, and finally the Vergel canyon. Both the Caverns and the Vergal are exhausting, heavy walks, warm, the caverns you need to use ropes and get down to and get through narrow passages, but good fun and worth it.

Hotels in Colchani are the best location if your target is to visit the Salar de Uyuni. It is right at its limit. And it has local souvenirs, wool clothing on the local market. But It has no grosery stores nor drug stores so you will depend entirely on the hotel or transportation into Uyuni to stack up. And the bus station is at Uyuni.

Salar is just an amazing place, a wonder the Word!

Salar is just an amazing place, a wonder the Word! Both when dry, as well as when flooded. Uyuni town very ugly, avoid it is possible, full of dirty roads and dirt in the air, if you are sensitive or allergic, do not go downtown and stay in one of the 3 nicests salt hotels in the Salar outside town. Best restaurant in town is Tika, in the hotel Jardin of Uyuni (nice hotel too)

Always tricky to review a whole city.

Always tricky to review a whole city. Few travellers stay anywhere long enough to properly do anywhere justice. Nevertheless. A charming little colonial era city perched high in the mountains, the mining history of the city is a great draw. Once the center of the Spanish empire's silver mining and minting endeavors, the colonial legacy remains in its attractive architecture and mining industry. The other main attraction are the national dish of Saltenas which are often said to the best in the country. I can confirm that there s strength to this argument. The local churches are beautiful and you can get tours of them regularly. The main cathedral is definitely worth a look. The Mint is usually the main attraction and it interesting and well guided. The only killer is the altitude which is breathtaking. Ensure you are acclimatized!
