It's a very beautiful place. One has to be physically fit to thoroughly enjoy the scenic trails , however it's not a foodies place. There are no decent restaurants. Everything food related or shops were just ok. The boat tours or the natural scenery were exquisite. Cottaging is better as atleast you can cook your own food and have a good waterfront to your self. Great cafes, restaurants, independent shops and cultural landmarks (don't miss Manticore Books, Mariposa Market, Gordon Lightfoot trail and the Leacock House). I grew up and lived there. I left the last time 25 years ago and it has deteriorated noticeably since then. Not a great place to visit and I wouldn't want to live there now. Use the by-pass if you can to travel around. If you are hungry, eat in Rockford.Guest review byBruceCanada - 8.0

We started visiting Midland when our next door neighbours moved to Penetang after retirement. They took us around and we discovered an enjoyable corner of Ontario. Love the marina. Great sunsets over the lake. Nice options for dinner. We specially loved Ariston, the Greek Restaurant in Balm Beach. I like Kincardine and visited it before.
I like Kincardine and visited it before. The bad experience was with the Save Inn motel which I do not recommend to anyone! I booked two rooms 12 days in advance and when I got there they had all rooms booked and occupied so I had do return home a 2.5hr trip. It ruined our weekend. Friendly people, perfect summer climate. Unfortunately provincial highway 21 is the main street. Traffic going north and south congests' s everything. Restricted parking downtown. Traveler's using the road need to obey the speed limit's. No sign of the police enforcing speed limits. Port Elgin has a lot of good dining spots, there is no shortage.Guest review byGary
