The location made our trip memorable - right on the St. John’s Harbour and walking distance to all the great shops and restaurants in Historic downtown. We walked everywhere, using our hotel as a base - including to the Battery. We loved the little coffee shop in our lobby, great atmosphere, modern, very clean, and our bed linens and toiletries all smelled amazing. Free parking provided in their parkade.

Lots of pubs and restaurants, we had a fabulous dinner at St. John’s Fish Exchange. Walked to Signal Hill and Quidi Vidi, spectacular views. Spent a morning at The Rooms which was an incredible experience. We are both fans of Michael Crummey and The Rooms brought his books to life for us.

The spectacular scenery and the interesting houses and buildings are fabulous. We didn’t eat at a lot of restaurants mostly cooked and bar b q back at the air b&b. Getting around is very easy, we had our own vehicle If you plan on visiting make sure you go before Sept 1st. A lot of the attractions and places you would want to see and want to do are shut down after that or just not available. We doid manage to go out in boat for a ride and catch a few fish with Captain Dave. That was fabulous!!

Such a beautiful area! So much to see.

Such a beautiful area! So much to see. We visited Elliston to view the Puffins & were not disappointed. They are so cute! The walk to the viewing site was a bit of a hike but I use a cane & succeeded with the kind & spontaneously offered help from fellow travellers. We met Wilbur Hobbs, a local shop owner/artist/sculptor & bought a gorgeous, intricately carved moose carving. The Bonavista lighthouse was a walk down history lane with a very informative guide. The views were spectacular & had the added bonus of Puffins. We drove to Trinity a village well worth the visit with beautifully coloured houses, several shops & a great restaurant. This was just a fraction of the attractions but alas time was limited.

    Location of hotel was great.

Location of hotel was great. Cruise ships pull into downtown area busy. The parking is hard to know if you pay or not because the meters are all broken and even the restauraunt did not know if I have to pay. I came back to a bylaws officer writing me up for 100 dollar ticket . I told him there is no meter where I parked he said the spot was for cruise ship shuttle bus. I discussed this with him and I thanked him for a warning only. I came back 1 hour later to find the spot now had a sign cruise ship shuttle parking.

Two minute drive from ferry. Very friendly folk. We stayed at Hotel Port Aux Basque and we would stay there again. We didn’t spend much time driving around. We only stayed for the night before continuing our journey up north. The hotel was within walking distance to Irving and a Tim Hortons, as well as a convenience store a little up the road. There was also a Foodland in the area which we did not visit.

GFW is a useful stopping point when crossing the island, we were reasonably lucky with the weather, if it had been raining we would of struggled to fill the days. as with much of NL I would pass by if we had not previously read the reviews, we found good pizza at Leftys and also an Indian near the malls

Gros Morne Park is specularly beautiful. The mountains are glorious, the lakes beautiful. Norris Point is a small village with several accommodations & a couple of pubs. It’s just a few minutes from Rocky Harbour, about 25 minutes from Western Brook Pond where you can take a wonderful guided boat ride through breath taking ancient mountains. Trails abound throughout the region. Driving along 430 provides so many jaw dropping vistas. An outdoor persons heaven.
