The hotel is amazing, convenient and people are always friendly and willing to help. Donald, the guy at the front desk at night, deserves a big raise. He’s a great host. I’m pretty sure I’ll come back to this hotel in my next stay in Medellin.

If you’re in the country of Colombia, Medellín is a must.

If you’re in the country of Colombia, Medellín is a must. It has everything a little modern city has to offer, from historical places visited by Gabriel García Márquez, amazing restaurants owned by Karol G, Maluma, and J. Balvin. To haciendas owed by villains such as Pablo Escobar. There’s also a great nightlife, with plenty of bars restaurants and clubs. For December. The light show on the river is quite a espectacular.

Guatapé should absolutely be on your travel bucket list—it’s a destination that offers a mesmerizing blend of natural beauty, culture, and adventure. Nestled in the Colombian Andes, this colorful town is surrounded by breathtaking views of lush green mountains and the shimmering expanse of the Peñol-Guatapé Reservoir. Whether you’re climbing the iconic El Peñol rock for panoramic vistas, strolling through the vibrant streets adorned with ornate zócalos, or gliding across the serene lake on a boat tour, every moment in Guatapé is infused with charm. It’s a place that invites you to slow down, soak in the scenery, and feel genuinely connected to nature and local life. However, the only negative to say is that many roads are not paved, which is due to the government's and private conflicts, for such a tourist area is a shame to see that. Hopefully it can improve.

Santa Fe is a beautiful old town, with truly original Spanish colonial architecture. Really better explored by walking, or maybe a 3 wheel motorized cart, or motorcycle, but not by car. There is very little parking, and the narrow roads in the old center don't accommodate 4 wheel vehicles. We found excellent restaurants using Google maps, inexpensive to very affordable. We enjoyed the Museo Juan de Corral for local history. The churches are very beautiful.

OMG! We came with a private birding group tour because the Cock of the Cock lek & other great birds can be seen here. We stayed extra after the tour left. We loved it so much that we want to return & book a place for perhaps a month. As birders it was incredible to easily walk to go birding. There was no need to hire a driver or guide. It’s very easy to walk to the restaurants that are out in the country, but you can easily book a mini-taxi & they are super cheap. They are lined up at the square waiting. I often walked the town alone carrying a camera & binoculars. I was completely safe. No catcalls from men like I would receive at home plus I knew that I wasn’t surrounded by guns like at home as well. We discovered a trail, but it looked like it was on someone’s property. We asked some people walking by that didn’t speak English. Our limited Spanish wasn’t working. The woman spent a lot of time using her translation app to assist us. She wanted us to be aware that it was a public trail, but that it was very steep & required care. Our birding guide would not have taken our group on it. We loved it! In short, the people here are welcoming & friendly. There are a surprising number of excellent restaurants & the prices are so much lower than in the U.S. We saw Europeans here. We didn’t realize that Jardín is listed as a top ecotourism destination. If you come, make an effort to go see the Oilbirds. They are on private property & you have to book a reservation in advance. The young men that took us made an effort to point out butterflies & birds along the way. Note- it is a very steep descent. Our group birding guide did not feel comfortable taking the group which had some older women. The hike back up was much easier for me. The guides allowed us to go at our own pace. We saw several gorgeous Clearwing butterflies here & got photos. This was the only place in 5 weeks there that we were able to do so.

The facilities and location are very pretty; unfortunately the rooms and the bedding smelled strongly of mold. There is no reception office, minimal and very unhelpful staff, bedding, towels, and bathrobes were stained, weak wifi, no food or coffee / tea available at the facility, loud music constantly playing. Not worth the luxury price, would be ok at half the price.

Let’s see the pro and cons… pros mall and grocery store is a couple of blocks away so you can get everything you want there ( exchange money, buy snacks, drinks, alcohol, great restaurants 3rd floor at mall, gym since I work out etc etc. ) and if you want more authentic Colombia food go up one block to find plenty of that and up 5-6 blocks with ton more restaurants and a park that everyone is gather were you can relax and chill with the locals. The only con is the hotel doesn’t offer more options in food for breakfast and room service but I know what I paid and they were great with everything else especially service, amazing friendly well above and beyond. I will be back!

Medellin is a beautiful city and charming people. So many things to see, beautiful upscale Shopping Malls, to Christmas lights to gastronomic areas. Be aware of traffic, bur well worth a visit if you ever get a chance. I love to walk, so whenever I book a place everything is walkable for me. Super great local lake getaway vibes. Take a boat tour of the lake (sizes range from a private solo tour up to a big party boat); climb the gigantic rock if you don’t mind the 650 steps up & down; visit the vegan restaurant a couple blocks off the main square; talk to the locals - they’re super friendly!
