- From $149.16 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 141 reviewsThis is a lovely place with a private deck on the ocean. It is coral, so not a beach for swimming - but Playa Negra is a beautiful black sand beach a mere 10 minute walk away - excellent for swimming. We had the air conditioned rooms with floor to ceiling windows looking out at the jungle and ocean as well as a lovely swimming pool. The back courtyard not only a few steps from the ocean, but also full of hammocks and wildlife, daily visits from howler monkeys and tons of birds. A beautiful place to relax. The breakfast was delightful, the staff friendly and helpful. Very clean and very close to everything in town. Many delicious restaurants within 5 minutes walk. The national park, hiking and snorkeling all within a few minutes walk. We LOVED this place and can't wait to go back.Guest review byBetsyUnited States
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.3Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 335 reviewsStaff was amazing, truly wanted to make us comfortable. One of the big reasons we went with this hotel was the availability of the free bikes- which unfortunately kept breaking down. But they went out of their way to fix them for us. We also appreciate the do it-yourself laundry available, and the clean pool to cool off in, during the late afternoon when it’s really hot. The air conditioning worked really well and the location is great; as it is not in the middle of the downtown hustle and bustle. Very close to the national park - we biked there three times! Nice restaurant - Reggae’s - very close. Easy access to stretch of black sand beach that was not full of tourists. We spotted all kinds of tropical birds in the property and a sloth right across the street.Guest review byMaryUnited States
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.3Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 326 reviewsLa Rana de Cahuita is a beautiful eco-lodge. The bungalows are very private and have everything you need for a comfortable stay, including a kitchenette, a private bathroom, and a porch with a hammock. The pool is a great place to cool off after a day of exploring, and the breakfast is delicious and includes fresh fruit from the garden, eggs, and coffee. The owners of La Rana de Cahuita are incredibly welcoming and helpful. They went out of their way to ensure we had a wonderful stay. The grounds are beautiful and well-maintained, with various tropical plants and animals. The location is excellent, close to the beach and the Cahuita National Park.Guest review byKireUnited Kingdom
- From $103.43 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 476 reviewsThe entire property was magnificent, lush vgetation, expertly landscaped. The vegetation also gives each unit privacy. The hosts are delightful, plaeasant, informative and always eager to answer questions and make suggestions to enhance your vacation. The dwellings and property are spotless. Because the property is in the jungle, the sounds of nature are all around. It is easy to get to the national park in Cauhita. We rented bikes as our mode of transportation but the property is best enjoyed with a vehicle. The pool is magnificent, large and surrounded by natural vegetation.Guest review byRossUnited States
- From $111.11 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 392 reviewsThe pool area was beautiful. So close to the beach and there's a walking track on the property, I found three sloths but they were all high up on tress, sleeping :( the receptionist was very kind and helpful. The bungalow style apartment was the largest we've stayed in, in 3 weeks. Huge bathroom w/spa bath, 2.5 rooms, 2 double beds, one single bed and a patio/balcony, perfect for a family. We just stayed in the main bedroom.Guest review byLeslieAustralia
- From $124.30 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.7Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 267 reviewsSuperb location, quiet but close to the centre, I loved it's proximity to the National Park, going to sleep listening to the Howler Monkeys. It was very clean, the staff were very friendly and helpful, I've stayed there before and will stay there again, I've stayed in several other properties close by but this is by far the best, outstanding.Guest review byJeremyUnited Kingdom

Costa Rica, for those who prefer nature as a concept not to be endured too long, and with minimal discomfort. I can't speak to other parts of the country but the Caribbean coast is not a place for real travelers. Go to Honduras or Guatemala instead.Guest review bySeanCanada - 6.0
The area in Cahuita we stayed at was ok, I wouldn't go back.
The area in Cahuita we stayed at was ok, I wouldn't go back. But we visited Puerto Viejo, that town is definitely great. Lots going on there, beautiful beaches, lots of restaurants, etc. A happy place. But not Cahuita.Guest review byBeckyUnited States - 10.0
Cahuita is a hidden gem.
Cahuita is a hidden gem. It’s a small, quiet peaceful place to stay that is near to Puerto Viejo, but without the noise. The beaches and wildlife were wonderful, and we loved visiting Cahuita National Park. There is a bus stop in Cahuita which goes to Puerta Viejo. We loved eating at many of the local restaurants. They were all good.Guest review byAnonymous
