Neroberg offers delightful views of the entire city, plus a chance to ride on the Nerobergbahn and to visit St Elizabeth's Church. It is more touristic than I thought, a bit overcrowded for my taste. One reason to not take the cable car up the mountain. If you like crowds and lots of restaurants you're at the right place. The hotel was perfect. Breakfast is offered at times that work for early morning travel. We like the ability to stay the night before at the hotel & not worry about potential traffic jams the morning of our flight. The town is a tourist magnet, but for those who know the Rheingau also a Mecca, neighbouring Gesienheim has the University where many Rheingau wine makers will have studied. The whole Rheingau is within reach, the steep Rüdesheim vineyards above the town are wonderful and peaceful for walking, those with less energy can take the chairlift. We tried the Spanish restaurant near the Bahnhof and Breuer's Schloss restaurant opposite (4 metres away) from the Hotel Lindenwirt where we stayed and also ate and drank. It is a historic university town, overlooked by a 13th century castle. Hilly but full of architectural gems from a 13th century church to a 16th century Town Hall and countless half-timbered 16/17th houses in the Old Town, having escaped any serious damage during WW2.
