All the positive comments are correct. On top of that, its a fantastic base for beautiful autumn color hikes in this wonderful valley. Also, in this time of the year, it is good to book for a longer time, - we did 6 nights-, and combine it with some remote working, as the accommodation is super comfortable, even when the sun does not shine in late October!

FAQs about hotels in German Mosel

A Wine Region of Imperial Fame

A beautiful German wine district punctuated by medieval castles, the Mosel centres on the meandering Moselle River between Koblenz and the Luxembourg border. The most famous wine produced here is the crisp Riesling, and many vineyards are picturesquely located on the steep banks of the river.

The Mosel hotels, guest houses and apartments on Booking.com are spread all over this fantastic region, with many set right by the river and offering spectacular views of the lush scenery. Each town and village has its own characteristics and there are wine tours and tastings galore to be enjoyed.

There are too many Mosel Valley attractions to list them all, but highlights include Alken castle, set high on a hill overlooking the riverside village below. One of the most spectacularly located castles is at Cochem on a lush hill by a bend in the river, while Bernkastel-Kues has a stunning medieval core with brightly painted half-timbered houses.

This tranquil area has been prized since Roman times and nowhere is this more evident than in wonderful Trier. Along with ruins of 3 Roman baths and an amphitheatre, the Porta Nigra and a bridge from the imperial era still stand and Emperor Constantine’s old throne room is now a basilica.

The staff was super super friendly! Good food and calm environment Beautiful location close to the river and vineyards The pool and sauna area was just perfect to relax Loved the room Easy parking On top of this, I selected the hotel to pass there my girlfriend’s birthday, and without me asking for anything, the hotel decorated our breakfast table with some birthday items, gifted her a small champagne bottle and a cupcake with a candle. I couldn’t be happier with the hotel. Thank you all very much.

A nice and comfortable family-ran hotel in the Mosel valley. We had a very comfortable stay and enjoyed the whole experience from the beginning to the end, no serious complaints. The staff was very nice and helpful to us. The kitchen is extraordinary, we really enjoyed the breakfast and a dinner. The location is splendid, near Bernkastel-Kues and all the Mosel valley attractions, as well as easily accessible from the highway. We would return anytime in the future, highly recommended.

We were here the first week of November, end of season, but were extremely lucky with the weather. We can only imagine how busy this place gets at the height of the season. The Autumn trees were spectacular, we experienced no traffic and it was great that the chairlift was still open 11-4. Cafe Flair on the riverfront is a must for trying traditional regional cakes and treats. We stayed 2 nights following 2 previous nights at Nürburgring. 2 nights in Cochem was enough for our 2 teenagers at this time of the year.

Lovely old town with a lot of wine shops.

Lovely old town with a lot of wine shops. A lot of wineyards within 10 minutes drive, for fantastic tastings. A great winotek on the Kuues site of the bridge. Food was so so, two of four restaurents where definately more turist traps than restaurents. Schützenhaus was a nice lunch restaurent with a fantastic view over the Mosel. Book at least two nights, becaus there is to many wines to taste in one day. You will definataly be drunk by noon. I would go again.

Both towns are scenic in terms of architecture and the Mosel. Good restaurants, an Aldi and an Edeka for groceries. Good museum of the area. Two days is ample for seeing everything and relaxing. Also a good location for taking a boat trip, which is lovely. Already quiet by early September.

Winningen is small but absolutely worth the visit if you're near Koblenz, especially by the end of August during the wine festival. It's a beautiful small city with some good restaurants surrounded by vineyards. I've been there twice (as a stop on 2 long distance hikes: the RheinBurgenWeg and MöselHohenWeg) and I enjoyed it both times. I stayed on the camp site one time (which is not ideal for tents because quite big and noisy with a lot of camper vans) and at the Route66 studio the second time (very charming and highly recommended).

Treis-Karden is a good base to go hiking.

Treis-Karden is a good base to go hiking. The hiking trail to Burg Eltz was very nice, I did the black route. The last part is the heaviest part. I went to the viewing point of the castle and then went back. I did that because there is an entrance fee that you have to pay for the castle, even if you just want to order food and drinks. In the afternoon I went to Mörsdorf to visit the Geierlay hanging bridge, which was awesome. Note that the bus (line 746) does not go there every hour and that the line is not currently on Google Maps. So search online for the schedule or visit the tourist office in the train station. During my stay the buses ran from the water-side of the station instead of the official bus stop, so double check if that is the case for you. Both these things could have been their own day, since there are more hiking trails available in both places.

We flew into Luxembourg Airport which is around a one hour drive from Wittlich. Luxembourg Airport is a very nice airport to transit through. Wittlich is mainly an industrial area with some nice housing and old town areas. There are good walks around and nearby to Wittlich, we found it to be a good base from which to explore the Mosel river by car and all of the associated beautiful German towns. Which in turn play host to some great eateries, wineries and of course, German Beer. We would like to come again during the spring / summer time. There are good restaurants in Wittlch and some nice "old" town areas too. Supermarket facilities are very good, with higher end supermarkets and more economical supermarkets. Bungert Supermarket is worth a visit, a nice cafe, very good food and wine selections along with clothing and homeware sections. Wittlich also hosts an Oktoberfest, running from late September through to early November, we were invited by friends to one of these and whilst we are on the older side we did not feel out of place and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. If you have not visited Wittlich before do be aware that there is a large industrial area, but in my view this adds to the variety of the town, a mix of the old and the new.

The old town is beautiful and lovely to wander in during the day. It's very quiet after about 6pm though, and bookings at restaurants are advised, especially in the summer and on weekends. Boat trips, castle tours, and the chairlift up to the Pinner Cross are highlights of a trip to Cochem.
