We visited GAP 37 years ago so some things have changed quite a bit. It now has quite a variety of places to eat - Italian, Asian, Pizza on every corner and an international crowd of tourists. We really had to search to find traditional German food and when we did it was mediocre. Many restaurants do not open until 5pm. If they are open for lunch, it's usually from 11:30-2:00 so keep track of the time. Highly recommend reservations if you want to eat dinner between 5:30-8:30pm. We were there in September. It was sunny and it was hot. Most hotels and restaurants do not have air conditioning. Depending on your time, consider taking the cog train from town to The Zugspit and then the cable car down. Go on a clear, good weather day otherwise you will waste a lot of money. If you are in decent shape, consider the hike at the Partnachklamm Gorge..bring a flashlight and a light rain jacket. Of course if it's a hot day, you will welcome the cool water spray. Eibsee is a beautiful, clean lake with a small beach and hiking paths. One thing that hasn't change is the heavy, stop & go traffic getting to G-P. Allow at least an additional hour driving than what you were planning.Guest review byCarolynUnited States - 10.0

The first thing I noticed upon arriving in Ingolstadt is the cleanliness of the area from the moment I stepped off the train. I had travelled from Cologne through Berlin, Dresden and Nurnberg, stopping a view nights in each place, and Ingolstadt was the best ‘first impression’ of a city I experienced. This continued throughout the 3 days I spent there. The train station is located in a leafy area next to a beautiful park and surrounded by 3 churches. The city has numerous walkways and cycle routes alongside the river and through beautiful gardens. The city is extremely peaceful and had beautiful architecture and many historic buildings and sights. You will find good coffee shops and some of the best traditional food dishes in Germany. Rosenheim is an intermediate town between Munich and Salzburg. The town is pleasant but unremarkable. For rail travellers it is a good (and often cheaper) base to to explore these cities as well as the Chiemsee, Berchtesgaden and the Bavarian mountains. Garching is charming city, very cozy and clean. Beautiful houses are surrounded by lots of greenery. There are shops, hotels and many restaurants offering various cuisines, Bavarian, Greek, Japanese, etc. There is a beautiful church, where a very kind and sincere priest serves.
