It is quite a big hotel, but it still feels intimate and personal due to the layout of the buildings, the set-up of the common areas and the service. The location of the hotel is ideal for exploring the walking trails the region has to offer. You can leave straight from the hotel for full day walks, or a short drive takes you to many other trail options. To return every late afternoon to the hotel, to enjoy the beautiful sauna & pool facilities, a super comfortable room (and bed!), friendly staff and a kitchen team that goes all the way to deliver tasty and abundant dinners, was just amazing. A special note for vegetarians: we had more vegetables in a single night, then the rest of our 2-week travel in Germany :) We normally do not book full-board packages, but in this case, it was well worth the price. Munich is a very beautiful historical city with Bavarian spirit. You will enjoy its architecture, churches, palaces, museums, huge English garden. There are numerous restaurants and bear gardens. The infrastructure and transport are organized exceptionally well, it's easy to move around. Besides, Munich is famous for its cultural life. The highlight was of course the Zugspite and the journey there by train, rack-rail, and cable car. Amazing views from the Zugspitze plateau topped only by the panorama from the peak itself. Rosenheim is an intermediate town between Munich and Salzburg. The town is pleasant but unremarkable. For rail travellers it is a good (and often cheaper) base to to explore these cities as well as the Chiemsee, Berchtesgaden and the Bavarian mountains. The first thing I noticed upon arriving in Ingolstadt is the cleanliness of the area from the moment I stepped off the train. I had travelled from Cologne through Berlin, Dresden and Nurnberg, stopping a view nights in each place, and Ingolstadt was the best ‘first impression’ of a city I experienced. This continued throughout the 3 days I spent there. The train station is located in a leafy area next to a beautiful park and surrounded by 3 churches. The city has numerous walkways and cycle routes alongside the river and through beautiful gardens. The city is extremely peaceful and had beautiful architecture and many historic buildings and sights. You will find good coffee shops and some of the best traditional food dishes in Germany. Obersalzberg is where we visited. The Eagles Nest is a quick visit as it’s just a restaurant and once you’ve seen the view there’s not a lot else. Get there early - it’s a zoo by 11:00am!
