The concierge and his assistant were extremely accommodating and tried their very best to make our stay as comfortable and good as possible. They had some challenges with a delayed check in thanks to them being understaffed but made sure to compensate us and doing all in their power to make our trip as good as possible.

Rügen Highlights

  • Relish resort living in Binz

As Rügen’s largest seaside resort, Binz is an oasis of long sandy beaches and chic shopping promenades. Stroll the distinctive pier or dine in a trendy beachside restaurant.
  • Visit Cape Arkona’s lighthouses

Cape Arkona and the nearby fishing village of Vitt have plenty to offer. The two ancient lighthouses and the Slavic temple fortress of Jaromarsburg are must-see spots.
  • Stand atop the Königsstuhl Rügen chalk cliff

Located in the Jasmund National Park, the Königsstuhl Rügen is a majestic sight. This 390-foot white chalk cliff contrasts with the lush vegetation and sparkling sea.
  • Unwind at the sea in Sellin

Famous for its stunning pier and villa architecture, Sellin is a popular seaside resort. Surrounded by natural beauty, you can sunbathe on the beach or swim in the tranquil lake.
  • Chow down on fish and chips at Fischräucherei Kuse

The waterfront Fischräucherei Kuse restaurant has been serving up a classic seafood experience for over four generations. Snag the catch of the day or freshly smoked fish.
  • Dress like a pirate for the Stoertebeker Festival

Each year from June to September, the Stoertebeker Festival celebrates pirate history. Ralswiek open-air theater hosts a play and nightly fireworks display.
  • Bike through the countryside on Hiddensee Island

Hiddensee Island’s open countryside, unspoiled beaches and pretty dwellings are best explored on two wheels. Renting a bike is the best way to explore this car-free island.
  • Explore the spooky Prora vacation camp

Prora vacation camp was planned by Hitler in the 1930s as a resort for vacationing workers. Today, the vacant buildings stand as an eerie testament to Third Reich architecture.

The town is very beautiful - nature, architecture, the beach. It's just exceptional, so many places to enjoy! Restaurants are very expensive and the food is either mediocre or really bad. If you really like good food, I'd recommend purchasing products in supermarket and cook at home. Little fish shops with smoked fish is the best food this place has to offer in my opinion.

Glowe, Germany is a small town on the Baltic Sea. This is a vacation town. There was a grocery store, small miniature golf course, restaurants and vacation rentals. Not much else going on. That being said—if you want night life, look elsewhere. Perfect place for a weekend stay… awhile week I’d get bored.

Binz is a lovely little seaside town, we love the fischbrotchen and cycling culture. You can get around on foot easily, the beach is well divided and organized, and you can get around by bus or train. Clean public restrooms are everywhere. Dont come for party life, but definitely for relax, no matter the weather. Dont forget to add lunch at Karls Erdbeerhof to your Rugen bucket list.

Sassnitz was a lively, coastal holiday town with beautiful, large villas. The beech wood had lots of trails and was pretty but the chalk cliffs were spectacular along with the colour of the Baltic Sea. There is a small zoo which is very new with not many animals but the silver fox was exceptionally handsome.

A Hidden Gem with Incredible Scenery - Dranske Municipality

A Hidden Gem with Incredible Scenery - Dranske Municipality During our stay in Rügen, we had the pleasure of exploring the charming municipality of Dranske. A small, picturesque community spanning 20.79 km², it is home to a modest population of 1,127 (as of March 2019). Nestled 3.0 meters above sea level, Dranske offers breathtaking views, including the cliffs of the Danish island Møn on clear days. The municipality includes several beautiful areas such as Dranske, Banz, Bug, Dranske-Hof, Goos, Gramtitz, Kreptitz, Kuhle, Lancken, Nonnevitz, and Starvitz, each with its unique charm. Dranske's rich history adds to its appeal. First mentioned in 1314 in a list of prince's taxes collected by a Brunswick knight, Dranske has a history that intertwines with the broader Rügen Island. The district of Nonnevitz was even documented earlier in 1193 when Jaromar I, Prince of Rügen, donated it to the Cistercian Monastery in Bergen. Today, Dranske is a testament to the island's historical richness and natural beauty. It's a fantastic place to unwind, explore, and get a taste of the idyllic Rügen life. I highly recommend a visit! Binz is the most charming place! Most guest houses are from turn of the last Century, and full of quirks and beautiful details. The beach is lovely, even out of season, and there’s also an old-fashinoned pier and a lake. Love it all!
