I stayed 3 nights at New Abu Simbel Hotel, a charming, newly opened boutique hotel designed in authentic Nubian style. The warm welcome from the owner, Mr. Hamada, and his friendly team, Hamo and Ali, made me feel instantly at home. The hotel was very clean and comfortable, with stunning hand-painted artwork and vibrant pottery pieces that beautifully reflected Nubian culture. The exceptional hospitality and cozy atmosphere made my stay unforgettable. If you’re looking for a relaxing and authentic experience in Abu Simbel, I highly recommend this wonderful hotel. I’ll definitely return!

This hotel has been absolutely amazing! It’s literally just two minutes from the Abu Simbel Temple — the perfect location. The property is new, beautiful, and spotless, with a stunning infinity pool overlooking the desert and Lake Nasser. Watching the sunset from their terrace is truly magical. The food is delicious and freshly made, but what really makes this place special is the people. The staff are incredibly warm, kind, and attentive. A special thank you to Asma, who greeted me so warmly at reception, organized my airport transfer, planned my morning visit to the temple, and helped with every little request. She was always available, caring, and made sure I felt completely comfortable during my first time in Egypt.

The apartment is great - but that's not the important thing here. The hosts, Marta and Osama, make this place feel more like a family home. Lovely hosts! The apartment is on Elephantine island. No cars, no bikes, no tuk-tuks. Just dirt paths and the very occasional donkey transporting goods. So, its a great place to visit to get away from it all. The island is very 'laid back'. No hassle at all. You get across to Aswan via a small public ferry. It's very convenient. Osama makes breakfast every morning. A lovely breakfast to start the day - bread, jam, white cheese, tomato, cucumber, yoghurt and tea or coffee. But, who cares? Because it is Osama's beaming smile and warm welcome that make the day. Oh yeah - and the fact that you are eating breakfast on the rooftop overlooking the Nile. I would recommend this place to my friends and family.

We didn't have great expectations because the rating was not the best for this property; however, we were nicely surprised. In fact, we booked just one night in case we didn't like it, and ended up extending for another two. The room was very clean and comfortable, and it wasn't loud at all (many reviews pointed to that, but our room was quiet). The staff are extremely kind, dedicated and accommodating. Breakfast was traditional Egyptian and abundant, we really enjoyed taking it with the beautiful view from the 6th floor where it is served. A nice detail is that you also get the gorgeous view of the Nile while using the lift. The location is great with restaurants at walking distance. We also arranged the Abu Simbel tour with them, which was good and at a fair price.

This is one of the hidden gems of Aswan. To be honest the pictures don't do justice to the hotel. We got a river view room and it had one of the most picturesque views of the Nile and Aswan. The staff was very helpful, and right from checking in to checking out we had such a pleasant experience. The reception can also help with local tours and taxis. The location of the hotel is also ideal and you have access to most facilities nearby (railway station, busses or boats). They even packed us breakfast when we planned leaving early for other destinations in and around Aswan. This was one of the best experiences we had in Egypt.

Aswan is less of a tourist town than Luxor or Giza, but the vibe is still there - mainly centred around the dams, Temple of Philae and short or long boat trips. However, if you stay at a guesthouse on Elephantine Island, you can find lovely hosts, good food and compelling views which together make a compelling case to spend more time here relaxing, rather than just seeing the sights.

Visit the temples in the afternoon (after 03.00pm) because the is nobody (except perhaps some extroverted sceaming chinese girls - but once they are gone). Yes, it´s hotter than in the morning and the light is not prefect. but you will have the temple for yourself and you will be able to make perfect photos from inside.

The stay at Abdu’s houseboat was nothing but mind blowing.

The stay at Abdu’s houseboat was nothing but mind blowing. I stayed in the houseboat for 5 days with my mother. We both feel like we gained a friend in Abdu and hope to see him again one time. He is so kind and caring! Not only did he help us arrange everything in terms of tours (to Filae, Abu Simbel, a Nubian village, the botanical garden and more) and activities (Falluca sailing, Zaraha sand meditation, bird watching trip, exploring the Souk, swimming in the Nile, transfer to Luxor via Edfu and Kom Ombo and more), he also helped us with his second smaller boat to get everywhere, get local products for local prices, assimilate to the local culture by clothing and customs, cooked for us (he also made sure all food was well washed), helped us donate goods and clothes to the local school, and assisted us in getting tickets for the night train from Luxor to Caïro, ATM withdrawals and simcards). We truly think he has a heart of gold and works with honesty not soley for money. His houseboat has everything you need for an authentic stay. Our cabin was spacious enough for the two of us and had an amazing view over the Elephantine Island. The terraces was facing the beautiful botanical garden on Kitchener Island. Due to the placement of the boat you have some shade in the morning and you can enjoy the sunset in the evening. If you look for a real experience and want to dive in the culture and day to day livestyle on the Nile, the boat is definitely something for you. We are truly greatful we’ve met Abdu and can definitely recommend a stay with him on his lovely houseboat. We hope to see him again one day!

From the moment I arrived, I felt embraced not just as a guest, but as family. The warmth and genuine hospitality of the entire household created a peaceful refuge that allowed me to rest, reflect, and reconnect with what matters. I especially appreciated the loving way they cared for their children, the heartfelt conversations, and their openness to cultural exchange. The meals were nourishing, the environment was clean and safe, and the small, thoughtful gestures—like helping with errands or offering fruit—left a deep impression on me. I was also moved by their humility, sincerity, and the quiet strength with which they manage the responsibilities of life.

Aswan has a very different feel to Cairo and Luxor. It operates on a much slower pace. Less hassle in the markets and on the roads. The islands, especially Elephantine Island, are wonderful and unique to visit. Try Makka Restaurant by the train station for simply excellent local food.
