We are transplanted New Yorkers who live in Barcelona, and this was our first visit to Valencia and the main destination on our road trip to southern Spain (we also stopped in Altea and Peñiscola). Valencia feels a bit smaller than Barcelona and much less touristy—in fact there aren't that many people in the city. But it is a very beautiful and architecturally diverse city, with wonderful restaurants and an incredible park that spans something like 10km and is also Spain's largest urban park. Plan to spend some time in Valencia's City of Arts and Sciences, which is like its own separate town. Warm friendly city. Parking can be difficult, but there are many underground car parks very reasonably priced. The city is very clean and well kept. Beautiful fishing town with great bars and restaurants. Second visit here and can't wait to come back. 2hr drive for us from Orihuela Costa but well more the trip. Find hostel Loretto and you'll be on one of the most beautiful streets in the town. I had such an amazing time staying here in Spain with my parents! The apartment was perfect—super clean, comfortable, and cozy. The room was spacious, and I loved how everything was so well thought out. The hosts were so kind and welcoming, making us feel like we were part of their family.
