Loved the great Oodi library, lots of different and interesting things happening. Hop on hop off bus, ( there are 2 companies) get the one that has the most stops. Some places close for lunch so not able to visit in the time available. This hop on etc is a great way to see the town and get off and explore before going to the next stop. Check out before how to buy a train ticket from the airport to the city. Not much tourist information at the airport or else I missed it. Vantaa was a good place to stay out of Helsinki with much reasonable prices. The aviation museum is a must see and spent half a day there. I visited this town many times and I find nothing new. The radio-communication museum is excellent. A short distance from this museum there is a little lake. If the weather is hot a bathing/swimming there is the right activity. (and after that, the cakes!) From Patria there is a short walk to the Museum and my favorite mini lake. I generally know and like Lappeenranta - it is a nice town to stay in and to both work and enjoy. Located in the beautiful Finnish nature and at the coas of Saimaa lake. Hameenlinna has some excellent museums, including Hame Castle, The Prison, and Sibelius's birthplace (small but important), but always check their opening times; we wanted to visit the Palanderin Talo (a house-museum that would have given us insights into 19th century Finnish life) but it closed at 1600 hours on a Saturday! Aulanko is a pleasant park a few kilometres north of the city. We had our best meal during this trip to Finland at the Piparkakkutalo restaurant, with its lovely ambience, delicious food and charming staff.
