The Abbeys are stunning, the town is flat so easy to walk around. There are regular markets, the Sunday one we went to was quite big with lots of fresh food. The harbour is a nice spot with a line of bars and restaurants nearby, my favourite being an Irish bar (O'Donnells) for a well kept pint (or three) of Guinness!Guest review byRaymondUnited Kingdom - 8.0

A historic and picturesque town that sees lots of visitors year round. If short of time, you can see most of it in half a day but there is more to explore if you have the time. As well as the art shops and galleries there are retailers of local produce and lots of restaurants. To get an appetite one might take a walk to the beach or around the Jardin des Personalities,or cross the bridge to venture in the direction of the control tower for shipping on the lower Seine. Some surprisingly large ships can be seen heading to,or from,Rouen and they pass easily beneath the imposing Pont de Normandie. I hesitate to use the phrase tourist trap, but some enterprises do make the most of the opportunity,so be aware.I've been there more than a dozen times and always enjoy the experience.Guest review byJohnUnited Kingdom - 6.0

I was in Deauville for the Bridge Festival, so chose the location for that reason. However, I would say that some of the restaurants in Deauville are not great value or quality and prefer to eat in Trouville where there is better choice and value in my opinion. It is all down to personal taste, obviously many wealthy Parisians and foreign visitors like to be in Deauville, for the beach and top hotels. Relative to Trouville it is quite smart, but Trouville is more lively and overall more interesting. Next time, I will stay in Trouville although it is more of a walk to the casino.Guest review byChrisUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Staying where we did made easy walking access to the main area for restaurants and shopping. We walked to meet our tour and did the Tapestry museum. We should have stayed longer to enjoy a few more museums and the city vibe.Guest review byPattiCanada - 10.0

We arrived in late afternoon at hotel and toured island first in evening hours - great idea as less crowded and still light enough to wander the streets and alleys. Toured the abbey the next morning - around 11. Already getting crowded - should have started earlier. But well organized and flows well within the Abbey. Well worth the visit to see this unique and historic structure - magical.Guest review byPeterUnited States - 10.0

Cherbourg is dominated by a huge harbour where your ferry comes in. The town itself is long from east to west, spreading out from the harbour. From north to south it is much smaller. The harbour area and the promenades are worth walking around and the central area at the Place Charles de Gaulle is the best area to relax in. It's also the ideal town from which to see other nearby attractions, such as a D-Day beach, the Bayeux Tapestry and Mont-St-Michel, all of which I visited. One word of warning - the French railway service isn't the best. The trains are subjected to many cancellations and delays and the ticket machines in the stations frequently refuse to give you a ticket! Railway problems aside, the town of Cherbourg and other parts of Normandy are worth a holiday and I'm so glad I went.Guest review byCLIVEUnited Kingdom - 10.0
In general, the area has many activities.
In general, the area has many activities. I think you want a day for Mont Saint Michel. You can go hiking, horseback riding, helicopter rides, it's like a zoo. It has many things, I think it took 2-3 days to explore the area.Guest review byJohnGreece - 10.0

Ouistreham is a ferry port - it is a small town, but a useful starting point for visiting attractions in the surrounding area. The Normandy landings beaches and sites that have associations with William the Conqueror are all easily reached from here. There are good fish restaurants in Ouistreham itself and in nearby coastal villages.Guest review byAnonymous
