The location was perfect and the service was exceptional. Such friendly and caring staff who were so welcoming and helpful! Our room was on the top floor. It was charming, quiet, clean and comfortable. For Biarritz, the price was very good especially given the proximity to the beach and the core. It was a 9 minute walk to the market in the morning.

Located on the Ile d’Oleron, the Hotel Île De Lumière offers direct access to the beach. It has an outdoor swimming pool, a tennis court and many other facilities. The location is picture perfect, literally. It is on the western coast of the island, so if there is a sunset, you would see it. On our days, it was rainy, but that simply brought a different kind of beauty. The beaches were mostly empty - we had them to ourselves. There are several ways to get to the beach below, and all are an easy, short walk. Yet, the hotel is elevated, so you have a lovely view of the coastline. The room was light and airy, and very clean. There is plenty of storage space, and a nice shower with plenty of pressure. The bed was very comfortable, and there were room darkening curtains. The hotel was full when we were there, but it was still quiet. Breakfast is not included, but we found it to be worth the price. There was a lot of variety in the pastries offered, along with cheese, meat, boiled eggs, cereal, and fruit. We would recommend this place, and would stay again.

Starting with the lovely decor of the hotel and rooms and the great ambiance. Lovely staff. Excellent restaurant. And an exceptional view.

Beautiful Atlantic coast town. Two beaches - one is rather stony but both were clean with good paddling and swimming. Great atmosphere and lots to see and do. We could have done with another day or two to really get the most out of the place.

La Rochelle in January can be quite cold and damp, being on the Atlantic coast. Unfortunately 99% of the tourist attractions close for the winter, so very little is open at this time of year. There are plenty of very good seafood restaurants, and some good bars, so you won’t struggle to entertain yourself. This old medieval town has plenty of cobbled streets, and historical buildings - I would imagine it would be a beautiful place to visit during the summer.

A lovely walled city on the Atlantic coast. A busy harbour, some very nice restaurants, and lots of boats messing about on the water. You should definitely try the mussels and the hot goat cheese salads which seem to be on the menu of 90% of La Rochelle restaurants.

The wooden chalets were spaced apart enough to give you the feel of being in the forest. The chalet was perfectly adequate for two people. There was sleeping accommodation for four people but it would have felt overcrowded with four people.
