The old city centre is beautiful.
The old city centre is beautiful. The cathedral and the old churches are, of course, stunning but the modern St Jeanne d'Arc church is a must-see too for an impressive contrast. We also spent most of one day in the fabulous (free) Art Gallery. We walked around the city mainly (walking is the best way to see the beautiful buildings and quaint streets) but there are buses and a metro system for getting around too. The food we had everywhere was great and pretty good value for money.Guest review byElainaUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Classic and beautiful fishing port town is picturesque but quite crowded even at the end of September. Lots of tourist-trade shops some of them interesting, but lots of them offer tourist schlock (made in China T shirts for example).Guest review byPeter BUnited States - 8.0

I was in Deauville for the Bridge Festival, so chose the location for that reason. However, I would say that some of the restaurants in Deauville are not great value or quality and prefer to eat in Trouville where there is better choice and value in my opinion. It is all down to personal taste, obviously many wealthy Parisians and foreign visitors like to be in Deauville, for the beach and top hotels. Relative to Trouville it is quite smart, but Trouville is more lively and overall more interesting. Next time, I will stay in Trouville although it is more of a walk to the casino.Guest review byChrisUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Beautiful town, great location to take a trip to Normandy beaches. The tapestries were moved to the UK and the Tapestry museum closed on Sept 1st for two years! Most restaurants were closed on Sunday and Monday and you definitely need a reservation for dinner if you want a good meal. some restaurants were closed on Tuesday too! If you take a full day tour of Normandy I would suggest staying the night at Bayeux because there is traffic at the end of the day heading back to Paris.Guest review bytoni - 10.0

We arrived in late afternoon at hotel and toured island first in evening hours - great idea as less crowded and still light enough to wander the streets and alleys. Toured the abbey the next morning - around 11. Already getting crowded - should have started earlier. But well organized and flows well within the Abbey. Well worth the visit to see this unique and historic structure - magical.Guest review byPeterUnited States - 10.0
Have been to Dieppe many times previously and love it.
Have been to Dieppe many times previously and love it. Lovely views, next to the harbour and sea, great choice of restaurants, although we are addicted to Le Tout Va Bien, which suits us perfectly. The only downside at the moment is that the main bridge for easy access to the sea front and harbour is closed. I gather work is 10 months behind schedule, and the tortuous diversion for motorists is very poorly signposted..:(Guest review byIanUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Lovely, small seaside town.
Lovely, small seaside town. Lots of restaurant choice - our favourite was Le Clos Lupin, typical French, family run restaurant. Great cooking - we also rated Les Bel Amis amongst others. Most, if not all the local restaurants seemed to be family owned and run. No chains.Guest review byHelaineUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Cherbourg is dominated by a huge harbour where your ferry comes in. The town itself is long from east to west, spreading out from the harbour. From north to south it is much smaller. The harbour area and the promenades are worth walking around and the central area at the Place Charles de Gaulle is the best area to relax in. It's also the ideal town from which to see other nearby attractions, such as a D-Day beach, the Bayeux Tapestry and Mont-St-Michel, all of which I visited. One word of warning - the French railway service isn't the best. The trains are subjected to many cancellations and delays and the ticket machines in the stations frequently refuse to give you a ticket! Railway problems aside, the town of Cherbourg and other parts of Normandy are worth a holiday and I'm so glad I went.Guest review byCLIVEUnited Kingdom
