We were very happy that any time we needed advise or suggestion everyone we met was extremely helpful and even when we missed the last bus to return to the hotel late sunday night we were invited to sit in lobby of waterfront hotel as they called a taxi for us. A nice little town with a small grassed area on front of cafes and bars giving it a spacious feel. Many restaurants to choose from as well as local amenity shops. Cinema in the centre. Parking along the roadside free in many places. Pleasant to walk around the many small winding streets. Train station in town too. Hidden gem only 30 mins from the coast. Historic Roman sites! Small city to walkaround. Beautiful walks along river with fishermen. An unexpected visit due to an issue with our truck but the place is lovely so I am quite happy we had the issue. I would definitely go back and stay for li get next time round. Angoulême is a beautiful city with the cartoon murals all around. But I didn't know that some places were on top of the hill, like the cathedral, some museums were all down by the mountain. I kind of struggled walking all around because of the heat stroke ( it was 40 degrees). But city buses can save you and take you anywhere you want. Rochefort is a very nice town by any standards.
Rochefort is a very nice town by any standards. It has lots of history in that it was where the French made their eary war ships and there is a dedicated museum to this, The town is laid out on a grid system so its easy to navigate. Huge street market once a week, plus an indoor market place. There are lots of other museums and you should get on line to see all the attractions that are available. A beautiful charming town, all centres around cognac making, we arrived on a Friday and found the whole town very quiet, we were later informed that the majority of inhabitants working in Cognac would be in summer holidays and only tourists remain, so if in peak season looking for a little peace and quiet, this is the place to go. Very safe town to walk around, some nice upmarket shops. Plenty of places to rent bikes. I found a lovely little beach for a morning swim 1.4km from the port, it had a well marked swimming area and lifeguard, locals were taking their early morning swim there, highly recommended.Guest review byPaulIreland
