- From $186.85 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very Good - What previous guests thought, 1,679 reviewsWe had a great stay at Fairfield House Hotel. Our room was huge, immaculately clean and included a lovely roll top bath. The bed was comfortable and we both had a good night's sleep. To top things off we had a beautiful sea view to sit and admire. The restaurant had a varied menu some offers a lovely atmosphere and great service. Or evening meal and breakfast were both 10/10. Having leisure facilities was a nice little bonus to start our day. Staff were available helpful and friendly. We would definitely return and recommend others to visit. Note that the property doesn't have a lift so request a room on the ground floor if required if possible.Guest review byLindaUnited Kingdom
- From $155.92 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 6.4Pleasant - What previous guests thought, 638 reviewsStaff was extremely friendly and welcoming. They were very accommodating, helping ensure we had a secure place to leave our bike overnight. The location was central and easy to find. I really like old hotels with character and this one had plenty! While the building is old, the bathroom was renovated. I really liked having a bathtub to relax in after cycling for the past 3 weeks. Breakfast was made to order, filling, and tasty. Quiet location and comfortable bed made for a good night’s sleep.Guest review byCindyGermany
- From $122.37 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.0Very Good - What previous guests thought, 2,126 reviewsHotel was older (as in vintage) but clean and the proprietor was incredibly nice and accommodating (no pun intended). We had a diverted flight from Ireland to Scotland and had booked a room at 2am so very inconvenient to the hotel, but not only did they get us booked in quickly, scrounged for fruit first is you ready since we were starving... Much appreciated! 👍👍👍👍Guest review byMikiIreland

We came to visit Ayr racecourse as horse racing enthusiasts.
We came to visit Ayr racecourse as horse racing enthusiasts. The actual course is fine but the buildings are dreadfully run down and facilities poor. From the outside it hardly open and given the time of year there was nothing to entice families off the beach. Poor racecourse management compared to many others we've been to. The town was also rather run down and I can think of no reason to return.Guest review byRichardUnited Kingdom - 10.0

I love Irvine, the beach is beautiful and you have facilities there as well which is perfect, especially if you are taking children. I love the wee cafes along Harbour street but my favourite is Small Talk, love this cafe. The home baking is delicious! They also have a gluten free selection of cakes. I highly recommend you try this wee place. You have everything you need close by, its such a beautiful place.Guest review byKellyUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We like the cleanliness of Prestwick, the selection of shops and the cafes and restaurants, the park with swings etc for children. The lovely clean beach and the walk along the beachfront which has seats to sit on where you can sit with a coffee or sit in and have a coffee with the great views across the water to Ailsa Craig and Troon and you can also see the planes that have departed from Prestwick airport.. There are also public toilets to the side off the cafe. The beachfront has a large grass area which has a large play area with swings and chutes etc. Also you can go along to the back of the airport to sit and see the planes coming in and taking off from the airport. There is also the golf course in Prestwick and it’s close to Troon golf course too.Guest review byElizabethUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Largs in beautiful for the views.
Largs in beautiful for the views. Going over too the island takes just a few minutes on the ferry and definitely worth a visit as its stunning. Fish and Chips from Fish works is the absolute best!! If you love haggis, try the viking chip shop for amazing battered haggis. Lots of different shops fro gifts and lots of charity shops if you like hunting for bargains. Beautiful little sweet shop too on the High Street. We went for the Viking Festival and although it was good, I don't think you need to spend the money on the tickets too see the burning of the boat because by the time you have got through the crowds too the ticket area the boat has already been burnt. Food and drinks at the festival stores are expensive but delicious. There are loads of market stalls there too selling all homemade items and cakes etc. The viking village is worth a visit too if that's your thing. Largs its self is lovely on a quite day. There is a large morriosns store within a few minutes drive from the centre or there is also coop and tesco express stores in the town centre. Largs is perfect from exploring that part of Scotland as lots too see within a short drive. I'm not sure about family activities as I don't have children.Guest review byKayleighUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Charming village on a beautiful bay, with views of the tallest peak on the island. Many interesting little shops, a terrific bakery, and a pub. But too few places are open to eat in the evenings. Easy to shop for groceries for self-catering.Guest review byEugeneUnited States - 8.0
I really liked Dean Castle and Kay Park.
I really liked Dean Castle and Kay Park. The Dick Institute is well worth the visit, nice to see the Johnny Walker exhibit. My Dad was a cooper for Walkers and brought back great memories. Since I grew up in Kilmarnock, much of the city is familiar so visiting the houses and streets that I frequented were a trip down memory lane. I enjoyed seeing the Burns Monument looking good once again. I have family photos of it being built and relatives enjoying visiting it in the 1960's. I could have spent more time in Kilmarnock and Riccarton exploring family history, maybe next time.Guest review byStuartUnited States - 10.0

We are visiting the beautiful Dumfries House that King Charles renovated. Last time we came we could not enter as The King was in residence. However we met him on a pathway to the Queen Elizabeth garden and spoke to him for a few minutes. WE hope today we will be able to see the house.Guest review byOckersAustralia
