Pedestrian Plaza under construction - when finished will be an asset. Variety of shops, some in covered markets - weather protection for travellers. Visited Cathedral and Cafe - both worthwhile . Overnight stay on route to Penrith for Family History research - Library staff very helpful.Guest review byDaphneAustralia - 10.0

First time in Lake District and it is very pretty although we found it very expensive for everything: the boat trip, parking, ice creams, eating out and even charging for public toilets. Don’t think we’ll be back. We didn’t think there was enough to do as a family on a budget.Guest review byLindsey - 10.0

Great food in terms of quantity and quality, friendly and helpful staff, and a spacious room with a lovely view of the sea and beach. We travelled to various parts of Cumbria each day of our stay to make the most of the time we had there.Guest review byColinUnited Kingdom - 10.0
We stayed 2 nights with our dog.
We stayed 2 nights with our dog. We were going to go by train but there was a problem at one of the lines and had to use the bus, so we decided to drive. St Bees is lovely for a walk and the beach. The weather can change suddenly but heat will remain. It is accessible to other areas by train or car. We went through to Whitehaven for a few hours which was lovelyGuest review bySueUnited Kingdom - 10.0
A quaint little Georgian town on the edge of the Lake...
A quaint little Georgian town on the edge of the Lake District, with a scenic harbour. The Rum Story & Jefferson's Shop is a must see and The Beacon Museum is definitely worth a visit. You can walk on the pier all the way to the end, be careful in bad weather, the block floor is not even. Lots of nice buildings around, many have seen better days but worth a walk around the town. The courtyard and gardens at the little church on Lowther Street are very scenic. The waters in the Queens Dock are an orange colour from the iron leaking in, certainly makes it unique and memorable (investigations into resolving it are underway). The Former Wellington Pit site gives a great view over the town. Lots of local pubs around, I must give a special mention to The Vagabond bar / restaurant, probably the best pizzas we've ever tasted anywhere.Guest review byGregoryUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Fine town with easy access to beautiful lake district.
Fine town with easy access to beautiful lake district. Has all you need in close proximity. Lots of dodgy driving in town. Stay frosty! If you're exploring the lakes this is great access and after adventure comforts.Guest review byGaryUnited Kingdom - 10.0
