Everything. Usually stay in Keswick town but decided on a change and so glad we ended up here. The hotel is decorated in perfect style, quite decadent, lovely snug and lounge area to see the views. Walks close by and Keswick ten minutes away by car. The hotel is dog friendly and there were a lot of dogs. Doesn't matter to me but to anyone not that keen the dogs go in the dining areas as I know friends of mine would not stay there for this reason , but a perfect spot for the many dog lovers. Lovely to lay in bed and have a beautiful view 😊my room was smallish but honestly big enough as really, how big does one need? 🤷🏼♀️

An old style Cumbrian town. Good supermarket but best of all for its access to the Lake District without all the expense and crowds. Lots to do in the immediate vicinity including the Hoad Monument (Google it!!)
A bustling market town with plenty to do, from the local arts scene to some fabulous restaurants, pubs and good selection of shops. Just outside the lake District National park and much cheaper accommodation. Communications are good with an easy drive from the M6 motorway and onwards west to Windermere and the Cumbrian Coast.
Love the lake and it’s fab theatre, also has excellent cinema for those rainy days / evenings and wonderful walking of course. Square Orange is favourite cafe bar, great traditional Cumbrian food and ale in most of the pubs.
Beautiful town with lots of restaurants, unique shops and a great variety of nearby activities. Accessible from the M6/A66 and small enough to browse around and stroll along the rivers. The Cumbrian/Lakes Tourist Board are remiss in not promoting it as they should - and are probably funded to do! I have visited twice in the last 6 months and intend returning with friends for a weekend shortly. Can recommend the Allerdale Court Hotel.
Lots of lovely shops lovely cafes friendly folk around Radical Steps a challenge but then you get the view at the top Bacon Buttie on the Devils Bridge haven’t let me down yet after 42 yrs Great Base to explore Cumbria Lancashire and the Yorkshire Dales
Keswick itself is good. A few shops, nice cafes and pubs. Only gripe as with whole of Cumbria is being fleeced for parking. We would of eaten there at night but wasn’t going to wait until 7pm to get reduced parking rate....
A very attractive part of the Lake District, with great mountainous views, and not as busy as the Central Lakes area. Some lovely villages with pleasant pubs. The Cumbrian coast is also within easy reach. A good place for wildlife too; I saw 2 red squirrel, a pied flycatcher, and heard a cuckoo all on the same day!
Arnside is a lovely part of Cumbria without the crowds. Plenty of places to walk, and the added advantage of having the train station there, we visited Ulverston and Lancaster whilst there, also a drive to Walney Island isn’t very far. The RSPB reserve is also a must and easy to walk to if you like walking.
Great Cumbrian town steeped in history and well worth a visit. Must do the town trail to understand 2000 years of history. Lots of local independent shops and an interesting brewery to visit.
My family is from this area and I love it. So close to the Lakes and Windermere. Very pretty location with lots to do. Ulverston is really friendly and the Cumbria Crystal Factory was wonderful.
The room and I assume the complete hotel appears recently refurbished and re-planned. Our room was in excellent condition, a good size and not overly hot on a very warm day. The ensuite had a large shower and was a good size. The rooms are on first floor along a relatively narrow corridor with a few changes of direction, but it is not too bad. Breakfast was excellent with the 'full Cumbrian' proving to be a generous offering, freshly prepared. Coffee in particular was strong and tasty. Staff were all friendly and welcoming.
Elterwater
The location is fab, a really quiet place with a good bus link, on the river. If you're looking for a quick walk, it's just upstream of Skelwith Force on the Cumbrian Way. Elterwater has a big pub and a nice cafe. The Hostel was nice and clean and peaceful. The room was a good size with just 6 beds in it. Showering and cleaning facilities were great. I really liked that if you have the evening meal or breakfast you sit together and this is a great chance to meet and chat with other people.
We had a lovely stay at Waverley Hotel, Workington. The hotel was very clean, the staff were all very friendly it felt like a family. The food is all home cooked, fresh and was amazing. Everyone made us feel very welcome. Decor a little tired and in need of a refurb which they are starting to work through, started the dinning /function room the day we left, good luck with that. It is a very good base for exploring Cumbria and the Lake District. Thank you for a very enjoyable stay.
We were walking the Cumbria Way and wanted to stay short of Keswick and chose the hotel on that basis, proximity ot the CW route and price. We were not disappointed. Comfortable room and sufficiently large for a 1 night stay. Excellent meal (we had the tasting menue with pesco-veg option) in relaxed atmosphere. Breakfast was pre-order the night before. Although this is fine for cooked elements we would have preferred a breakfast-bar arrangement for cereals, juices etc.
the hotel was welcoming from the very start of our arrival. we liked that you had a choice of a la carte restaurant in the hotel and a traditional style pub/restaurant separate from the hotel The experience was completely relaxing which was especially needed after a hard days work looking at potential property's to buy location only 20 min walk from town centre and surround by the Cumbria countryside will be definitely returning in the near future
Borrowdale hotel is inviting and welcoming. The staff on reception are fantastic and care. I felt at home. Kevin on the bar was lovely and really cares about his guests. All waiting staff at breakfast were welcoming and friendly. Room lovely and warm. Bed cosy. Shower very hot and powerful, toiletries available really lovely fragranced and also good for sentivie skin. Breakfast amazing. Not a hot buffet but freshly prepared and delicious. I had full cumbrian.
Everything really but particularly the excellent breakfast. I had the full Cumbria breakfast both mornings. They also do free coffee and cake between 3 and 5 each afternoon. No bar in the hotel but they had an honesty bar which was well stocked with beers, spirits and nibbles. Just take what you want and log it in the register and settle up at checkout. Lots of comfortable seating areas with great views. Staff were friendly, professional and helpful.
Penrith
Liked everything about a local pub, we live in Cumbria and we were on a cycling tour. Great welcome when we arrived, we were able to check in straight away. Room was better than we expected, for pub standards it was above & beyond some hotels we’ve stayed in! It was great to read the history of pub given its run by local community members (400 - 500 members) Well Done. We will be back.
The breakfast was great, with a selection of cereals and pastries from their continental spread and the cooked breakfast (the full cumbrian) was spot on. The staff were really helpful and had such great knowledge of the area. I would recommend Scafell Hotel to anyone who is keen on the outdoors, as it’s in a prime spot with only a 6 minute drive from the foot of scafell pike
Welcoming friendly hotel in a tiny Cumbrian village. Lovely staff, especially the waitress that we spoke to (blond lady) in the restaurant, sorry I didn’t ask your name, but you were super lovely!! Great evening meal, especially the Salmon and Asparagus. Good breakfast and nice cosy room. Excellent value for money.
Very comfy beds, breakfast was tasty, and good tea and coffee is served. Hotel has a quiet bar used by the locals with low prices. Free parking nearby next to the station, or ask about the disc system. Location is good for exploring the quieter Cumbrian coast or dipping into the far pricier Lake District.
Kendal
It really is a lovely cottage, brilliantly placed for a trip to the lakes. It is very comfortable well equipped. Our son is at the University of Cumbria, and it made a great place for us to explore and all to be together rather than a hotel for a visit to see him. We will defo all be back.
Workington
Hotel is small but charming with lovely friendly staff. It is in an excellent location for the town centre and also a good base for visiting and exploring Cumbria. Our room was spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated with finishing touches. Great shower in en-suite. Food was good.
Carlisle
The breakfast was brilliant, especially the sausages! A very clean and characterful b&b run by Margaret and Jack who were very welcoming and friendly. This was my second stay here. I will definitely book again when I come back to north Cumbria.
St Bees
Breakfast was very good. Good choice and cooked to a good standard. Hotel is situated in the small village of st bees and is a 15 minute walk from the beach. Situated 2 minutes from train station with trains to all coastal area of north cumbria.
Full Cumbrian breakfast, delicious, kept me going for hours. Many of the staff were absolutely lovely, friendly and welcoming. Room was comfortable and clean, bed extremely comfortable.
The Cumbria Grand was no longer the elegant hotel it had once been but was impressive in scale and set in grounds in a good location with extensive views.
Whitehaven
Ideally situated for exploring the lakes and Cumbria coast Apartment is in good central location within easy reach of Harbour, shops, restaurants and pubs
Torver
The location is perfect for the first night stop whilst walking the Cumbria Way (Torver detour). Hotel/Pub serves a good range of ales.
Just what we needed doing the Cumbria Way. Town centre location, with good access to local amenities. Good breakfast & helpful staff
