This place was exceptional ! Actually had two nights here…. The facilities were world standard I understand this is one of six hotels/ spas in the Lakes owned by one family . Well they know how to deliver a customer focused , high quality service and they make you feel that you are important and valued The staff were clearly happy .. that lets us a lot about the culture here. I would recommend this place Food and restaurants were superb The rooms were quiet , full of all facilities , comfortable and luxury Thankyou for such a wonderful stay Zac and Zoe were wonderful staff . Food quality was great. Bit more variety on the evening meals would help for those staying longer than 4 days but that is being picky. Fantastic breakfast - if there is something you want but cannot find on the buffet then ask the chefs - all very helpful. The spa was amazing and great for a rainy day. Location is perfect for walks and local communities. Room was cozy and comfortable. For 6 days we could have done with booking a bigger room - it is worth checking the options for longer stays - but the bed was super comfy and we wish we'd bought the robes.

I attended an afternoon tea birthday party and from the moment we walked in, the service was exceptional, friendly, down to earth and that was every single staff member. The grounds are beautiful and well worth exploring. I decided to stay the night rather than a long drive home in the evening and again, the room was perfectly presented with everything that I needed plus more. Cleanliness was superb and the view from the room was wonderful. Excellent shower.

    A lovely place to visit.

A lovely place to visit. Lots of good local shops, cafes and restaurants that were nearby. Buses 599 open top available to get to other places and train station with good connections if you don't want to drive. We enjoyed visiting Ambleside, Bowness, Coniston and Grasmere. We took a boat out on Windermere from Low Woods, the car ferry to Hawkeshead and the boat trip on Lake Coniston. A walk down to the lake directly from Windermere via Birthwaite Road leads you to two small jetties where people were swimming, paddle boarding and people watching. In Windermere, Home Ground Cafe is a great place for breakfast but be prepared to queue. Tillys bar did a good fish and chips. Cafe Italia for pizza etc.

This is the third time I have been back to Bowness this year. I love the art shops, the clothes shops and most importantly the home made fudge. So relaxing watching the boats on the lake and geting the ferry to the other side to walk up to Hill Top. It was a struggle to get my grandaughter away from the Beatrix Potter museum.

The roads are horrible (very narrow) and large buses come down them forcing you to back up down the road to a pullout. The drivers in the area are terrible -probably other tourists. Parking areas and hiking trails are not well marked. The rain was constant. The area is beautiful and there is great hiking when the weather cooperates. I loved the Catbells hike and Castlerigg Stone Circle.

I know Penrith well, I used to live and work here and its always a pleasure to return. Kendal is a great location between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. It is large enough to have a lot of choices of restaurants, grocery and shopping options. Grasmere is like nowhere else - it’s absolutely stunning and has a tranquil feel to it that just makes you feel so relaxed and content when you’re there. Plenty of walks, scenery, cafes, restaurants, a decent pub and lots of beautiful hotels to choose from. The gingerbread shop is gorgeous! There’s so much to see here. Has a nice period 'feel'.

Has a nice period 'feel'. Lots of one-off shops and very few national chain stores. Quite hilly, which could be challenging in slippery conditions. The promenade provides an excellent, uncluttered walk along the marshy coastline, particularly in good weather. Lots of great, family-run restaurants and 'eating pubs'. Provides a civilised alternative to the popular holiday resorts.
