Cathedral and Castle including the exhibitions were great.
Cathedral and Castle including the exhibitions were great. An active town centre with lots of interesting shops. As a university town it has plenty and varied hospitality outlets. We were only there for two days but will definitely be back.Guest review byMikeUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Barnard Castle is set high up on the Pennines, surrounded by wild and beautiful moorland. The town itself is warm and friendly with a good choice of eating places. For those who like history, the ruined castle is always worth seeing; the Bowes Museum, built as a huge french chateau takes a day to look around properly. There is a street market on Wednesdays and lots of artisan shops to enjoy for the rest of the week. The river Tees which flows through Barnard Castle is very beautiful and photogenic.Guest review byAnonymous - 4.0
Like so many towns, Chester-le-Street has been hollowed out...
Like so many towns, Chester-le-Street has been hollowed out by online shopping. The key difference is that, whereas the towns that are local to where I live that have suffered the same fate as Chester-le-Street provide free parking in an effort to encourage trade, Chester-le-Street charge a fairly full price for parking. Regrettably, if I was in the area again it's not even a place I'd drop into because of the parking fees.Guest review byAndrewUnited Kingdom - 4.0
Run down was probably what I will remember of this place.
Run down was probably what I will remember of this place. Funny enough the city cemetery was probably one of the most peaceful places to be. Lovely trees and walking areas. Would recommend that as a place to visit.Guest review byAngelaM777United Kingdom - 8.0

We stayed in Stanley due to the proximity to the Beamish open air museum just a short drive away. The bluebell inn, just a short walk from the Ball Alley, is a restruant within a pub, not a pub serving food. The food had a turkish theme and was wonderful. I will return if in the area again.Guest review byRobert - 10.0

Sedgefield is a foodies place, pubs and restaurants all within a few yards of each other. It was good to have a different place to eat each evening. It is also very pretty with the little church and the bellsGuest review byAngusUnited Kingdom - 6.0

Seaham seems very run down with most of the shops shuttered up. We went in August and a lot of bars and places to eat weren't open which we found surprising. One bar wouldn't serve us at 9.45pm as they were closing. The beach is quite hard to reach down lots of steps.Guest review byLauraUnited Kingdom - 8.0

We booked accommodation for evening at Grassholme observatory - clear night and knowledgeable and enthusiatic leaders. Middleton in Teesdale had a selecd.tion of pubs/restaurants but very little else. However trips to High Force and Bowes musuem, made the weekend enjoyable.Guest review byAndrew - North YorkshireUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Beamish is a fantastic place to visit for the whole family.
Beamish is a fantastic place to visit for the whole family. Staff are all in Period Costume of the day and give you the history of that period. It's so big, we recommend riding on one of many Period Trams and Buses to your chosen area, as it can be a long walk. We highly recommend doing Beamish over several daysif you can, as it's too much of a rush to do it all in one day.Guest review byAnonymousUnited Kingdom
