This stay was the main part of my holiday. I was upgraded (due to an error made) and everything went smoothly after that. The morning staff was exceptionally helpful when I discovered that the trains were on strike. I had to get to Canterbury and it looked like I wasn't going to make it. I cannot express enough gratitude to the one lady in particular (blonde hair, I believe) who helped me out so much with this predicament. She was so concerned about my situation and she spent a lot of time finding me an alternative route by bus. THANK YOU!!!!!! This is the kind of staff member all hotels should have. She was caring and compassionate and figured out my problem herself. It took a huge weight off of my shoulders and I wish I could have given her a big hug. I did write to let them know I had arrived safely and they were glad to hear that and wished me well. Everything about The Mermaid Inn was spectacular. Just loved the place! The lounges were stunning. The staff at the bar was wonderful. All of the staff members at the inn were very friendly. I appreciated the tour of the cellars. The walk along the seafront.

The walk along the seafront. It was a real pleasure to walk along the seafront and the pier every day. The town has obviously had a lot of money spent on it fairly recently and we loved the pedestrianised areas and the variety of shops and places to eat. The back streets were awful and gave us a bad impression of the town when we first arrived and were looking for the centre. The area around our b and b needs work doing as lots of the buildings had fallen into disrepair and holiday entertainments had closed down.

Friendly people, smiling faces. Very historic and amazing views from the Castle especially. 9 pubs within a 3 minute walk, all serving food. A plethora of restaurants, my favourite being Rustico which sells delicious Pastas and Pizzas. Fantastic bus services to and from surrounding towns and villages, stretching from Eastbourne to Brighton. Good train services and fast ones to London.

Lovely seaside town. Not too busy with tourists and train service to larger seaside resorts running throughout the day. Lovely places to grab a coffee or food. Really enjoyed dinner in Bentley's Steakhouse and the Picnic Basket does really good affordable breakfasts. Lots of other eateries along the sea front and lovely views from De Warr Pavilion if you fancy stopping there for a coffee.

Battle is a pretty little town and very compact.

Battle is a pretty little town and very compact. The Abbey and battle ground is good to see as it is a major part of this country's history. However, if you opt to walk around the battlefield make sure you make use of the free audio guide as this brings the history to life as opposed to just looking at a field. The Abbey/battlefield and town can be done in a day, but it is a good idea to have an overnight stay so that you can pace yourself and fully enjoy the place.
