What a beautiful place inside and out! The staff were exceptional and our dinner at the bar was memorable and delicious. I thought this property would not feel so much like a castle, but I was wrong. And even though it rained throughout our stay, we walked the grounds and enjoyed the manicured property, a hint of lavender along the pathway, and a moment of peace watching the dolphins swim in the river (Yes. Dolphins. I thought they were teasing us, but it was true). I wish we had booked a longer stay.

Dunbrody House Hotel is like taki g a step into history. It is full of antique furnishings...beautiful gardens, and with modern accents. The tranquity was wonderful. It was peaceful and quiet, which was just what we wanted. It is set well into quiet parkland and forrest, the birdsong was spectacular. Food was also excellent, and the staff were lovely too. Absolutely beautiful hotel and surroundings. The staff were all lovely and the breakfast was excellent (and in a beautiful setting overlooking the grounds). The spa is small but very nice, the indoor/outdoor pool is unlike anything I have seen before and we absolutely loved it. Can't recommend the Lyrath enough and can't wait to go back again hopefully!

I hadn't been to Kilkenny for a good number of years and I was blown away by how pretty and accessible the town was. We were there at Halloween so it was very atmospheric, ghost tour was great too. There were so many interesting shops and lovely restuarants, Paris Texas was particularly good. ALL the bars were great with music most nights, Fields and Matt Millars were particularly good. I'm thinking of going back again for the christmas markets.

The best way to describe Waterford is it's in transition. There's lots of building work being done, I'm sure in 5 years it'll be fabulous, just now it's decrepit. If you're on the hunt for beggars of hostile migrants then head for Waterford it's a world leader.

If you are looking for cutting-edge city life, this is not for you. Dundalk is a former railway town, largely built round the (now defunct) works for the GNRI and with much 19th century red-brick architecture. It has a busy high street with a lot of small shops, pubs and restaurants, none are grand, it reminds me of similar towns in the UK before planning blight took hold. A lot of effort seems to have gone into smartening the place up in recent years, which is nice. Would that other towns of its scale have survived so well it would be nothing exceptional, but as so few have, it has a real charm. As a base, it is well sited to explore the countryside around, which has a long and interesting history, with a lot of historic sites.

Dun Laoghaire is a hip spot away from the huddle of the city Center. Great walking on the pier, waterfront and through the village. Some lovely restaurants and coffee shops . Breakfast at the Vanilla bean was lovely. The famous Forty Ft swimming spot is a short walk. Lots of quaint shops and vintage secondhand stores scattered along the Main Street . Good public transport on busses , trains and taxis . Aircoach to Dublin Airport from Marine rd opp City Hall. Market in the Peoples park is well worth a visit if you’re there over the weekend. Childrens fun fair on the waterfront runs daily from 12 noon till 7 pm . €3/ ride.
