The central location, the rooms, the building itself.. The comfortable beds, large room, natural light, naturally cool in the summer due to the thinness of the walls.. Of course, AC is available too but there was no need to use it.

Amazing view. Located in Scala that provides a more peaceful location and yet, short walk or drive to Ravello and Amalfi. Hotel is at a cliff with amazing views. The hotel facilities are great. Rooms are clean and breakfast is rich and tasty. But as always, the staff is the important thing. When you go to Al Barrilotto it’s like you are going home. This is a family run hotel and everyone is always happy to see you. I felt like I was at home and I just never wanted to leave. The place is outside Positano, there is a bus to take you to Positano or Giovanni will drive you in. He is so very helpful. Breakfast was awesome, lots of food, very attentive and with an amazing view. Room had a great balcony again with a great view. And there was a roof top terrace as well!

Amalfi Coast Highlights

  • Conca Dei Marini

Home to the Emerald Grotto, sea-lovers can snorkel in the crystalline waters, while foodies can savour Sfogliatella, a sweet shell-shaped pastry from the Convent of Santa Rosa.
  • ‘Painted Village’ of Furore

Small but full of character, this stunning hillside town gets its other moniker from the colourful open-air museum of murals lining its bougainvillea-lined streets.
  • Romantic Ravello

While Annunziata Historic Building hosts recitals, Villa Rufolo also delights with spectacular views and concerts in its gorgeous gardens.
  • Handcrafted goods from the Amalfi Coast

Set in natural caves, revellers can head to Africana Famous Club and admire the shimmering waters below. Extravagant live performance and lobster dinners are also on offer.
  • The ceramics trail of Vietri sul Mare

While colourful ceramics can be admired up and down the Amalfi Coast, the traditions of the master ceramist are a closely guarded secret in this picturesque coastal town.
  • The fishing village and anchovy paradise of Cetara

Experts at preserving anchovies, trattorias here are known for their fresh homemade pasta with fermented anchovy essence Colatura di Alici, topped with crunchy pumpkin.
  • Lemony pastries at Piazza Cantilena

Sal de Riso Patisserie is perfect for people watching with some chilled lemon mousse, a zesty lemon sorbet, or a generous slice of pear and ricotta cake.
  • Historic Piazza del Duomo

The grand staircase at 9th-century Amalfi Cathedral is a must-see. Sample chocolate-covered orange candy overlooking the bougainvillea terraces and turquoise waters.
  • Sunbathing along the Amalfi Coast

Crystal clear waters and endless stretches of golden sands run from Duoglio Beach in Amalfi to Cavallo Morto Beach in Maiori, while the hidden Laurito Beach near Positano is wonderfully secluded.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was very nice and clean. The view was superb, and forewent our usual bedtime routine, and had the balcony door open so we could fall asleep to the waves right below our room. The breakfast was varied and delicious. The accommodation and ability to access great day trips (Pompeii, walking the path of the Gods, visit other towns along the coast, cookery course etc) was brilliant and made for a great holiday. We did find that the whole coast was packed with tourists and when the cruise ships came in, this was much worse. The local buses were very good, and cheap, and enabled us to achieve everything we wanted to.

    Positano was fantastic.

Positano was fantastic. We enjoyed great restaurants and shopping. The incredible views will stay in my mind for the rest of my life. We had easy access to boats heading to Capri, which is a “must add” trip you should fit in to your plans. The beach’s are loaded with stone and you must have water shoes to get into the water. We were always at ease with the relaxing vibe that surrounded us. My wife and I will strongly recommend Positano to anyone thinking of heading that way. It is truly magical. Our 2 best meals were at “The Mediterrano” and “ La Taglia, we enjoyed them both equally.

Maiori is an interesting town on the Amalfi Coast.

Maiori is an interesting town on the Amalfi Coast. The beach is big and much more accessible that other towns. The local bus service (Sita) is good except that the buses fill up and you can be left waiting for the next one and hopefully get on it. The Amalfi Coast road is amazing, winding, narrow and so busy with traffic nonstop passing with inches to spare - sometimes buses and cars have to back up to pass on some parts. The Italian bus drivers are extremely skilled - some are nice, but some are extremely mean (and I think hate Tourists)

We loved where we stayed. Last year, we visited the Amalfi Coast which was beautiful. This year we went to Capri, which was amazing. The local shops were great and the people are very friendly and helpful. We ate locally or cooked and had a few favourite spots. It was easy to walk around where we stayed, for longer trips we had the rental car. We could ask our host for directions and tips on where to visit.

I booked the Double Room with Sea View for good money but at no value. The room had a window with blinds that were broken and not possible to open, so instead of the sea view I've got the 4 walls closed space (perfect for Amalfi coast vacation!). Old smelly absolutely shaky furniture, cracks on the walls, dirty walls that haven't seen any paint since the building was finished I guess. Even the soap saucer in the bathroom was cracked. Announced breakfast is just stale croissants with jam and lowkey coffee. Worst experience ever, don't recommend anyone.

We enjoyed Praiano immensely and would make that our home base if we were ever to come back. We found a few very nice restaurants with lovely staff and delicious food. Went down the 400 hundred steps to the lovely beach with aqua blue water. Getting around is a bit of a challenge with all the steps. We enjoyed the challenge. It was also nice to get away from the tourists. Prison is much quieter.

Furore is around 15km from amalfi, sounds close but in reality due to the winding roads it takes around 25 minutes in a car/bus Furore is quite spread out so you need to take that in to account when staying there. Car/moped is the best method of transport followed by the bus, walking is an option but be prepared for many steep hills. This is a perfect base to get into amalfi, but be aware that parking in amalfi itself is challenging and the police/car towing companies are red hot!

Peaceful and quiet—perfect for a relaxing vacation.

Peaceful and quiet—perfect for a relaxing vacation. There are plenty of good restaurants and enough markets for everyday needs. The area also offers great historical sites to explore, along with the beautiful Valle delle Ferriere nature park nearby. A convenient bus stop with frequent service makes it easy to get around the area without a car.
