This was a gem in Amalfi! It is steps from the ferry (and they even walked our luggage for us to the hotel). They arranged a driver at a reasonable price from the Naples airport and held our luggage after check-out so we could explore Amalfi and go to a pizza making class. The room was modern, beautiful and had an amazing location with so few steps compared to our other Amalfi Coast stays. The staff were kind and attentive. I highly recommend this place!

We arrived late after dark in the rain. They had someone at our villa to greet us and show us how everything worked in the villa. Prior to arriving they contacted us. The communication was impeccable. We felt very comfortable about arriving late because of the incredible service. The best part about the entire stay in Villa Magia was the people that work for the owners as well as the owners themselves. Their service to towards their clients was probably one of the best ex experience I've had in my 60 years. Thank you for a fabulous day. The girls enjoyed every minute of it.

If you're looking for a truly luxury stay on the Amalfi Coast, this is the place. Everything about it was done with attention to the comfort of guests, and we felt really and truly pampered. It isn't cheap, but it is worth it if you're looking for something really special.

Absolutely everything. The view, the breakfast, the rooms, the free shuttle to town, but especially the service! The place is ran by Giovanni and his family, and they make you feel at home from the minute you arrive at Il Barilotto. If I return to Positano (and I hope I do!), I wouldn’t think about staying anywhere else. 10 out of 10!

We were quite surprised and absolutely impressed that the hotel owner actually walked from the hotel to the bus stop to greet us. Prior to our arrival from Amalfi he texted to ensure we were on the correct bus and that we got off at the correct stop. He walked us back to the hotel and straight to our room. The room was large and very clean, had the usual amenities, and included a balcony where we could see the activities in the small town square. We believe it was the family patriarch that looked for us the next morning as we sat on a local bench near the hotel just taking in the morning. He invited us to the dining room behind the hotel for a wonderful breakfast that included entirely too much food for two of us.

Amalfi Coast Highlights

  • Conca Dei Marini

Home to the Emerald Grotto, sea-lovers can snorkel in the crystalline waters, while foodies can savour Sfogliatella, a sweet shell-shaped pastry from the Convent of Santa Rosa.
  • ‘Painted Village’ of Furore

Small but full of character, this stunning hillside town gets its other moniker from the colourful open-air museum of murals lining its bougainvillea-lined streets.
  • Romantic Ravello

While Annunziata Historic Building hosts recitals, Villa Rufolo also delights with spectacular views and concerts in its gorgeous gardens.
  • Handcrafted goods from the Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast is a home to unique artisan products. Positano is known for its linen beachwear, while Maiori is where you can shop for handmade Gladiator leathersandals.
  • Natural caves of Praiano

Set in natural caves, revellers can head to Africana Famous Club and admire the shimmering waters below. Extravagant live performance and lobster dinners are also on offer.
  • The ceramics trail of Vietri sul Mare

While colourful ceramics can be admired up and down the Amalfi Coast, the traditions of the master ceramist are a closely guarded secret in this picturesque coastal town.
  • The fishing village and anchovy paradise of Cetara

Experts at preserving anchovies, trattorias here are known for their fresh homemade pasta with fermented anchovy essence Colatura di Alici, topped with crunchy pumpkin.
  • Lemony pastries at Piazza Cantilena

Sal de Riso Patisserie is perfect for people watching with some chilled lemon mousse, a zesty lemon sorbet, or a generous slice of pear and ricotta cake.
  • Historic Piazza del Duomo

The grand staircase at 9th-century Amalfi Cathedral is a must-see. Sample chocolate-covered orange candy overlooking the bougainvillea terraces and turquoise waters.
  • Sunbathing along the Amalfi Coast

Crystal clear waters and endless stretches of golden sands run from Duoglio Beach in Amalfi to Cavallo Morto Beach in Maiori, while the hidden Laurito Beach near Positano is wonderfully secluded.

FAQs about hotels in Amalfi Coast

A Feast For the Eyes

Comprised of brightly coloured villages cascading down sheer cliffs, the Amalfi Coast is on the opposite side of a peninsula from Sorrento. Between the UNESCO World Heritage-listed villages are lemon groves and winding roads hugging the coastline that are definitely not for the nervous driver!

In wonderful Positano, delicately positioned houses somehow manage to cling to the cliffs. The next village along is Praiano, on a flatter piece of land and with a 12th-century church. Furore in the hills above a fjord has its own winery.

Amalfi itself is picturesque, as it rises from the harbour to the top of its 13th-century cathedral. As the coast’s largest town, it has a good selection of bars, restaurants and accommodation. Adjoining it is Atrani, a fishing village with a dramatic, beachside road supported by arches.

High above is Ravello whose Villa Rufolo’s landscaped gardens offer magnificent panoramas of the coastline below. Due to its position, this town boasts the Amalfi Coast hotels with the best views and, of course, prices to match. Back at sea level Minori and Maiori have the longest beaches.

Due of all this splendor, you might struggle to find cheap Amalfi Coast hotels, but there is also a selection of affordable apartments and B&Bs on Booking.com, and in any case the fantastic views makes the price well worth it.

Town is most beautiful seen from the sea or a high terrace. Friendly people. Gets overrun by tourists, even October. Lots of hills and steps, and taxi’s are a flat rate of 35 euros, adds up fast. Better to walk and avoid traffic jams. La Pergola on the beach for pizza, also for spaghetti and clams. Ohima for great vibes and good food. Il Pallazo for special evening. Ferries to visit Amalfi and Ravello. See Capri and ride the chairlift. Relax and have fun.

Agerola provides an escape from the tourist busy towns on...

Agerola provides an escape from the tourist busy towns on the Amalfi coast. It is higher in elevation than the towns of Amalfi, Positano and Maiori. These towns are port towns and in the busy travel months are always full of tourists. However, there is more to do in these towns than in Agerola, and if you plan to only stay in one of those towns, only go between 2 close towns, spend your vacation time on the beach, then I would recommend to stay in one of the coast towns. If you want a more central point to all of these and other towns (ex. Sorrento, Ravello, etc...) and plan to travel each day to a new town and a quiet place to rest at night, then Agerola is a great place to stay. If you stay in Agerola and since the roads are one lane both ways, you have to factor in travel times to all other towns (in case you need to catch a ferry, have dinner reservations, etc...).

Lots of ceramic shops selling almost the same items. many good restaurants within walking distance. Arrive by train then take the accensore (elevator) down to the town - the lift-well is lined with blue tiles and fish. Gorgeous. The ferry stops down at the bay and bus 68 takes you up to the town for 1.4euro. Buy the ticket from the ladies in the ceramic shop near the bus stop before you board and validate on the bus.

Praiano is a great location to stay in the Amalfi coast for viewing spectacular sunrises & sunsets, and if you want to avoid the crazy crowds in Amalfi & Positano as it is sandwiched between these two major tourist destinations in the Amalfi Coast. It is much cheaper to stay in Praiano, but relying on Public transportation is a real hardship if you don’t have a car or bike/scooter. For that reason, Maiori and Minori are much better locations that provide the same calm, affordability and easy access as Praiano. There are also some very restaurants in these 3 towns.

Perfect location for exploring the Amalfi Coast. Half an hour driving to Amalfi, half an hour driving to Positano. For hiking the "Path of gods" you start immediately at the residence. For getting to the "Fiordo" you descend the one thousand stairs just below the apartment. Small market shop and minimarket just near by. Also very good restaurants just near the house. Recommended
