It was centrally located. We had plenty of space., it was clean and they provided a very nice breakfast in the morning with good cappuccino. Also, it’s right next-door or across the street from a Catholic Church so we attended mass on Sunday, which was nice although we did not understand Italian .

We used La Spezia as a place to visit Cinque Terre region.

We used La Spezia as a place to visit Cinque Terre region. We were somewhat disappointed in Cinque Terre. It is overcrowded and somewhat dilapidated. The buildings could be refreshed with a coat of paint. The best way to see the region is to take the train to Vernazza, then take a 2-hour boat trip to view the five villages. You need to be lucky with the weather. The ferry boat gets cancelled when the seas are high.

Secluded private garden location just minutes from the beach and the Gigante statue in the new town, nestled under old growth trees in a light filled greenhouse glass addition to an historical building. Sun Light yet private. Equipped with dishwasher and washer/dryer(a bonus for travelers) and the lack of towels. Bring extra charging stations. Outlets are sparing in each room. Non the less, this one is a find. I'd return.

Levanto is the next town north of Cinque Terre.

Levanto is the next town north of Cinque Terre. The train that runs between the five towns, actually starts in Levanto so you can easily visit all the towns, and the trains also run to La Spezia where you can connect to many other parts of Italy. There are many restaurants, a fairly large beach, and you have many choices for hikes, walks, or rent a bike and ride through the tunnels. We were very glad we choose Levanto as the Cinque Terre towns were fairly crowded.

Riomaggiore is a vibrant town. Loved being outside at night with the restaurant sounds and bars playing music. It felt safe to walk around on my own. Enjoyed the harbor view and proximity to boat rental and tours. Beach was nice and small and not too crowded. Ferry is right there, too. Highly recommend staying in Riomaggiore.

Vernazza is charming and lovely with it's colored structures and ocean smashing against the rocks of this tiny port village. We went at the end of September, and it was still a bit crowded with tourists and sourvenir shops and restaurants along the walking strip. If you've never seen anything like this, you'll probably enjoy it. We, personally, found it not as impressive as Burano in Venice, which has MANY mult-colored homes and lovely walking areas along the water with canals that were much less touristy and truly more charming!! Thus, we don't need to return to Vernazza for the effort that it took to drive here.

Picturesque, relatively small and quiet compared to the other cinque Terre towns. Centrally located so I could begin day walks in both directions. Best not to carry heavy luggage up the hill from the train station (around 380 steps) - use the bus… only 1,50 Euros but expect to wait 15-30 mins at peak time. The walks to Vernazza and on to Monterosso, and also the walk to Manarola are magnificent, just be prepared for lots of steps.
