Nice city with history. Unfortunately I was not lucky with B&B were I stayed and it was pouring rain with flood I tried 5 restaurants during the rain all of them said wére full at the end a hamburger restaurant accepted that I get in. I wish we had more time to explore the area. We found a cute part of town with an amazing restaurant. We plan on going back to Trieste next year and would stay there again. The only issue we had with the unit was the area is a little run down, and the TV is very old and will not support streaming. Trieste is a great "medium" size city.
Trieste is a great "medium" size city. Not the WOW attractions (or crowds) of Venice or Firenze, quieter and a little more user friendly. Simpler and smaller museos, churches and sites. All of this is fine, Just temper your expectations. Central city is very walkable. Great, easy to use bus system. Day Bus trip to Slovenia was interesting and fun. (there are several) Hop on/off Bus is good way to see city. Trieste is an Old city with lots of history to see and learn about: Maritime Museo, Castle & cathedral (small) of San Giusto, San Sabba Rice Mill National Monument (very moving), Museo Revoltella, tram to Opicina is charming,Guest review byphilItaly - 10.0
We liked Muggia.
We liked Muggia. It is small and easy to navigate the old town. The main Piazza has several bars and cafes, friendly and welcoming for a drink or a meal, and fun for people watching. There are more cafes and bars towards the waterfront. Just stroll around and enjoy the relative tranquility. We arrived in Trieste by train, taxi to Muggia was around 35 euros. We took a day trip back to Trieste by ferry (fun in itself), and did lots of walking from Muggia. It's a nice respite from the tourist circuit, and so pretty with stone buildings and small alleyways, plus the castle (exterior) and Duomo to enjoy. The village itself has not much to offer (in terms of sightseeing), but for me as a base for exploring the karst by bike it was perfect. We were so glad to have stayed in Trieste rather than Venice to catch our cruise, Trieste was so charming and beautiful!! We highly recommend to any/everyone one to fly into and stay in Trieste rather than Venice! Trieste has a small airport so make transportation reservations through your hotel before arriving. It cost us $150US for transportaion fee from airport to city center because it is quiet a distance & we were 30 minutes late due to weather so they tacked on a $30 late arrival fee to the original $120 but still worth every penny we spent!!Guest review byBroussardUnited States - 8.0
