+ great location just next to the JR Station + Good size room, standard equipments and amenities for this price range in Japan (very good) + Great breakfast, worth the waiting ( it can get crowded sometimes) + The onsen on the rooftop... Huge apartment style room. Service from all staff are incredible and made our 4 days stay very memorable. We walked from the hotel to Red Brick House and slowly stroll to Mt Hakodate Ropeway. Plenty of restaurants around the area. Highly recommend the conveyor sushi near JR Station (Nemoru Hanamaru), had our best meal there with reasonable pricing.

Onsen on 13 floors Top floor, when you in onsen nude standing on the windows on street or others buildings people maybe can saw your birdie haha~ Osen have indoor and outdoor. they have free ice cream in onsen place.

We were given a free upgrade to a room with a view of the small lake and the volcano, as well as the forest, and it was so lovely I didn't want to leave. Beautiful and spacious room and excellent value at the price we paid. Tranquil location, great and helpful staff, and good location for touring by car. Nearby Onuma Quasi-National Park is lovely, especially at sunset. Wifi worked well, everything was good, and the hotel has pretty grounds with woodland walks.

There is a special charm around Hakodate, which is...

There is a special charm around Hakodate, which is infectious and friendly. Indeed one of the helpers at the station thanked me, as a tourist from the UK, for coming to Hakodate. It isn't a big city - but by Japanese standards, but it offers a lot for the visitor. Plenty to see and do for a few days and with the sea on both sides of the city it offers good views in almost all directions. It is so easy to get about, although, for me, walking was ideal, it isn't too far to get to anywhere in the city. If you do go up to Mt Hakodate, be aware that they do cram you on the cable car - called a ropeway here, so for the claustrophobic, make sure you stand at the edge. Also, just before and just after dusk is when its most popular and as they don't limit the number of people going up, it gets very very very crowded. (It is the only place I've been in Japan when the people are pushing and shoving to get views)

Assabu is a charming and quiet town in southern Hokkaido, perfect for travelers looking to experience the slower, more authentic side of Japan. Surrounded by lush forests and farmland, it offers a peaceful retreat from the busier tourist spots. While Assabu is small, it has a few unique and culturally rich spots that we visited: 1. Assabu Kyodo Shiryokan – A local history museum that gives insight into the town’s heritage. 2. Assabu Shinrin Tenjikan – A forest-themed museum showcasing the region’s natural environment. Gallery Somabito – A quaint shop featuring local crafts and handmade goods. 3. Michi-no-Eki Assabu – A roadside station where you can find local produce, souvenirs, and snacks. The town is also known for its connection to hinoki-asunaro (thujopsis) forests, which are rare this far north in Japan. The food here is simple, fresh, and made with local ingredients—perfect for those who appreciate home-style cooking.

One of the best morning markets in Hokkaido - bigger and...

One of the best morning markets in Hokkaido - bigger and less costly than the ones in Otaru and Sapporo. Good place for seafood. Good location for short day trips to the coast. One of the easiest entry points to Hokkaido via Shinkansen from Tokyo and flights into New Chitose Airport. Very safe and clean.

Hakodate per se is a quaint lite town, whose main attractions can be visited in one day. However, it can serve as a hub for exploring southern Hokkaido as it has all the necessary services. Food is certaiy a plus, particularly seafood, and prices are lower than elsewhere. Also, compared to larger towns on Honshu, it has a frontier-type of vibe.
