The dishes kept coming, each one more delicious than the last, and we ended the meal with homemade plum wine prepared by the owner. Afterward, we relaxed in the wonderful onsen, making for a perfect evening. The next morning, a fantastic and varied breakfast awaited us, rounding off an exceptional stay. Located in the centre of Takayama Historic District, Ryokan Tanabe 旅館田邊 is one of the most historical ryokans in the city. It features Japanese-style rooms and free WiFi in all areas. Just 40 metres from restored Edo-era post town Magome-Juku, Chaya Hotel has simple traditional rooms with futon bedding and a tatami-mat floor. It has a hot public bath, and Japanese meals are available for a fee. It was a very nice place to stay, located in the middle of magome juku... The owner was very helpful, had very good english and went above and beyond to accomodate us and help out as needed. The food was very good and tasty, and our room was comfortable. No meals are provided, but bread and soup are provided as light meals in the room. Free parking is provided on site. Beautiful ryokan with multiple amenities available and great location. The owner was very nice and helpful.
