- From $425.47 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.3Very Good - What previous guests thought, 518 reviewsThis hotel is exceptional, they served sumptuous breakfast and dinner, made us felt like VIP. We really enjoyed it so much, but my kids weren't really enjoyed it, guess they are too young for this. The outdoor onsen is really good, you have to take small ropeway to go down, sounds adventurous right? You must try it, don't miss it, feel so special to go onsen under the snow. You have to buy special clothes if you want to go mix onsen, but normally women will not go there, as there is another one for women only. There is no men only outdoor onsen, so man have to buy special pants to go in. There is indoor onsen too which located inside the hotel building. Our room looks new, i think it renovated, and I like the chilling area at the lobby with the real charcoal heater.Guest review byChi LiHong Kong
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.7Excellent - What previous guests thought, 660 reviewsThe baths are exceptional, there is also a large mixed bath. The staff is very professional, helpful and kind, the ladies at the meal services so nice and fun. English is spoken at the front desk and by staff of different countries. Everyone does their best so we have a great stay. One employee even took us to the morning market by car. The food was excellent, we ate in private rooms. The very convenient bus stop to TAKAYAMA. The area around the hotel is very beautiful The hotel is clean , comfortable, everything works well like wifi etc… We would definitely come back if in the area.Guest review bypaulUnited States
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.6Excellent - What previous guests thought, 236 reviewsThe onsen was amazing. The onsen on the men’s side consisted of one indoor pool, two outdoor pools, and two individual tubs outside. It was amazing. The hotel itself was a bit dated and the staff, while wonderful, were not as attentive as other Ryokans we have stayed. One other reviewer described it like staying at grandma’s house. This was a fair comparison. Finally, this hotel is very remote, the last place on the bus route. Given the price we could have stayed closer to town, but we loved the Onsen and our overall experience was excellent.Guest review byDrewUnited States
- From $281.71 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.6Good - What previous guests thought, 5,345 reviewsThis hotel has a very convenient location - it is just across the street from the main train station and they offer free luggage storage both before check-in and after check-out. Staff can speak English well. The room was comfortable, clean, quiet, with a mini fridge and a kettle. The price was very affordable and it even included free buffet breakfast. I would not think twice where to stay if I am ever back in Takayama. Thank you for a great experience.Guest review byTina SSlovenia

Takayama is beautiful, geared towards local and foreign tourists. The only catch is that some places will only take catch so you need to keep that in mind. We found beautiful crafts close to the temple, we also visited the local morning markets and caught the bus to Shirakawa-Go which I cannot reccomend enough.Guest review byHelenaMalta - 10.0
RELAXING QUIET GIFU!
RELAXING QUIET GIFU! We just wanted to visit other places in Japan. We have been to Japan a few times already. We like going to these kind of relaxing places. We went hiking, we walked everywhere since everything was walkable. We had so much local food and sake of course! ONSEN! Nature everywhere! We also met some of my aunt's family and friends. It felt like a home. We love everything in here. We could have stayed longer but will be back and will see the other sights. Thank you GIFU! :)Guest review byisi paniniPhilippines - 8.0

The 8km trail from Magome was great and there were buses going from the station to take you to the start of that short trail. On the return you could either walk to the train station a short walk from Tsumago or catch a bus back to Magome then another back to Nakatsugawa station. Lots of options and times. A beautiful and picturesque walk.Guest review byFrangapaniAustralia - 10.0

Gero has so much to share, with food, including Hida beef, yes get familiar with it. It's top level Wagyu beef and is from Hida the region that Gero is situated. The city is easy to get around in the snow (in Winter) and in the rain (in Spring), with places that are easy to walk or ride share to. Gero to most is a journey to get to with taking the trains, but it's well worth the journey, having seen cherry blossoms in the ever greens AND the snow falling like in a "snow globe", encrusting the tress, during the train ride. We are fortunate to have experienced Gero twice and now looking for a third stay, in Autumn for the changing of the leaves!Guest review byRonaldoUnited States - 10.0
1 day experience is perfect.
1 day experience is perfect. The tourist site can be done in a few hours if your arrive before noon. Next is to enjoy a good hotel stay with onsen and their gourmet dinner onsite from late afternoon to night. Follow by breakfast and leave to next destination. There is a storage place next to the bus terminal if you have luggage to store for a few hours and check out tourist venue next to it before heading to the hotel. We chose to ship our large luggage from Tokyo to Kyoto via the Family Mart or Yamato shipping services from Tokyo.Guest review byLianneUnited States - 10.0
Takayama is a jewell in the mountains.
Takayama is a jewell in the mountains. Small, walkable, ( around the city or in the mountains ), has great food, friendly people… There are plenty of day trips from Takayama. We could not go to the valley to try onsen ( heavy rains ) and went to the Green hotel instead - the onsen there was, surprisingly, beautiful and relaxing. The train journey from Takayama to Kyoto is spectacular ( sit on the left side ) - amazing views of the mountains and the river.Guest review byMariaSpain - 10.0

We arrived here after our first four nights in Tokyo and welcomed the peacefulness and pace of the town. We walked two legs of the Nakasendo Way using Nakatsugawa as our base: one leg walking from Nakatsugawa to Magome and the other bussing to Magome and walking to Tsumago from there and then returning to Nakatsugawa to our delightful guest house. Everyone we met here was helpful and kind. .Guest review byDianeCanada - 10.0
Gero is a gorgeous town in the valley in Gifu.
Gero is a gorgeous town in the valley in Gifu. There is a much slower pace here, incredibly friendly people. and beautiful nature. There's many nooks and crannies where you'll find interesting things, and the Gassho-mura open-air museum village is a must-see area.Guest review byVincentUnited States - 10.0

It has beautiful views of the snow, river, mountains and of course the thatched roof houses. The air is fresh but it is difficult to find a restaurant because they close early. It is boring at night. It would be better if visitors just go to Shirakawa for a day trip and stay at Takayama.Guest review byLai Fong
