- From $759.78 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.4Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 342 reviews- Private Open-air onsen! :) - The room with tatami area and open-air bath immaculate! - room is very spacious in all aspects (toilet, bedroom, living room, bath). It is even bigger than it looks in the pictures - large comfortable beds - delicious dinner and breakfast served in a private dining room - lots of activities to do - night light show at the "Spirited Away" bridge, massage chair, pantry/ lounge, and If the private onsen in your room is not enough for you, you can explore the various shared onsen. - nice items at the souvenir shop - friendly and accommodating staff - great location - it is just a minute walk to and from the bus that takes you to the train station, likewise it is walking distance to many cafes and to Asunaro which serves chicken tonkatsu that your grandparents will serve to their favourite grandchild.:)Guest review byDonna JoyVietnam
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Excellent - What previous guests thought, 1,595 reviewsThe most wonderful onsen we've ever experienced and it was great to be able to experience it as a couple since the baths allowed mixed genders. The food was great too and our room was very beautiful, but the most beautiful area was the rotenburo bath area which was amazing. The staff was friendly and great and the free shuttle bus made it easy to reach the location from Jomokogen (and Jomokogen was easy to reach from Kyoto station). An absolutely fantastic experience and we were lucky enough to get to experience both a mild evening and a cold morning with some snow! It was beautiful and made the warm bath even more cozy.Guest review byOttoSweden
- From $144.51 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.6Good - What previous guests thought, 186 reviewsPeaceful Location, close enough to the ski park we wanted to visit. We could have stayed our whole trip at the hotel with food options, pool and onsen. The staff was accommodating to us not speaking Japanese and very friendly. The room catered to family with kids slippers, robes and toothbrushes. We enjoyed exploring all the local scenery, waterfalls and beautiful town of Karuizawa. We would love to return again.Guest review byArielJapan

We had a nice view from the large room with a table and chairs and a tatami room, good value. They had shuttle bus to take us to another nearby sister hotel to experience different Onsen.Guest review byTomikoUnited States

Nice location to visit for max two days, touristic but not too over-crowded and people in general very friendly. Some of the Onsen are amazing - if you like it - and the ski resort (if open since top part closes fast with some wind and snow) is small and somewhat outdated, but still nice for 1-2 days. Some restaurants offer good value for money, but reserve on time and be prepared to have diner around 18/18:30 latest since everything closes early.Guest review byJurrienThailand - 10.0

Nakanojo is an amazing area in Shima, giving access to several wonderul onsen and hiking opportunities. A quiet spot that is perfect to relax and enjoy the spa baths. There is a small connivence store for basic goods and several small cafe to grab coffee or other light meals. It is easily walkable for those who like to hike in scenic mountain towns.Guest review byMarkUnited States - 10.0
It is a beautfiul town high up in the moutains.
It is a beautfiul town high up in the moutains. The toursit part of town centres around the hot spring and the way it is lit these days makes it particularly beautiful at night. There are temples and parks to visit and some quaint little shops. You can stand and watch soba noodles being made by hand and then enjoy them for a very reasonable price. Walk up the hill and around the none touristy parts of town. there are some great family run restaurants serving delicous food at prices the locals pay. Apart from the soba place which is in the toursity part of twon, restaurants in that area are pretty expensive. It gets cold, quite cold, down to -5c in January during my stay. Be aware that getting in and out of the town is via limited timetabled train and bus. Unless you are there for the skiing, get in early in the morning, stay 1 night and get out the next afternoon.Guest review byjonathanAustralia - 10.0

While waiting for the shuttle bus to pick us up in Jomo Kogen, we got suggestion from the lady officer in Information Center to visit Tsukiyono garden. We came in mid April 2025 and there are still a lot of sakura. whereever you shoot your camera, the result of the photo is amazing. there is also a small grocery that serve udon/ramen as well. I bought a watermelon in that grocery and the lady in Udon stall lend me her knife to cut it. the watermelon is very small, compared to what I used to eat in Indonesia, but this minakami watermelon is very juicy and its flesh is so thick yet tender.Guest review byLilyIndonesia - 10.0

You can't miss the smell, but the view and the atmosphere are totally worth it!! Highly recommended to visit There are free footbaths around the town, just don't forget to bring your own towel. Plenty of places to stop for food, be it snacks or a meal.Guest review byNicAustralia - 10.0
Amazing picturesque location!
Amazing picturesque location! Mineral water was natural and wonderful. Be prepared to sleep on a futon on the floor, but other than that very comfortable. People are very nice anyways in Japan, but the staff here was particularly helpful and accommodating. Free shuttle bus from Jomo-Kogen was a real plus which enabled us to get there from Tokyo via Shinkansen. Wish we could have stayed longer!Guest review byIraUnited States
