- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 249 reviewsEverything! You will not find a more authentic Japanese experience than this inn! I wish we had stayed longer. Everything was perfect. Unfortunately it rained for two days straight… so our sightseeing was cut short…. But staying here totally made the trip worth while!! From the welcome at reception, to the amazing view from our room and everything in between… it was perfect. We stayed in a room with a hot spring bath in the bathroom. The dinner and breakfast were delivered to our room. The “kitchen” staff were gorgeous! The futons were comfortable, and everything was spotless. We tried the open air bath at night. Such a different experience in the rain. Sitting in a warm bath, under the roof, listening to the rain falling! It was so peaceful. The owners are very kind and gracious. They are the 5th generation of the family to own the ryokan. They even offered us a lift to the station in the morning and helped us with an issue that we had with our tickets. I am definitely returning in the future!Guest review byCarinaJapan

Waking up with the peaceful view of sunrise over the ocean through the bedroom window was the BEST! The Breakfast was to die for, so many options and everything was delicious, including fresh fruits & salad. Can’t beat the experience and value. Wish we had more time to enjoy the Resort and beautiful private beach! Staff was most helpful and courteous!Guest review byJeanUnited States

Shizuoka is a hidden gem.
Shizuoka is a hidden gem. You can stay here and get to many sightseeing destinations by rail (day trips) and come back to the relaxation of more laidback location. Locals are very pleasant and friendly, not so jaded by the over tourism of Kyoto and Osaka. We speak very limited Japanese, but were welcomed and managed in small local restaurants and Izakayas.Guest review byMarkAustralia - 8.0
Quiet seaside town with no tourists apart from us.
Quiet seaside town with no tourists apart from us. Easy to get to from Osaka. Stayed in a traditional ryokan (tattoo friendly). Spent the day walking along the harbour to the ropeway up to Atami castle which had several different art displays and museums including an adults only one and a great view of the coast. Away from the beach things were pretty steep so a car might have been a sensible optionGuest review byBrigidAustralia - 8.0
Hamamatsu is a small industrial city located about halfway...
Hamamatsu is a small industrial city located about halfway between Kyoto and Tokyo. It has a number of industrial tourism sites - Suzuki Plaza, esp., and music-related sites - Yamaha Innovation Road and the Musical Instrument Museum. There are a number of Jazz- and Classical-music festivals in the fall, and that is a good time to visit. Lake Hamana is beautiful, and there are a number of interesting temples, shrines, and historical sites like the small but beautiful Hamamatsu Castle. Mostly ignored by Western tourists, but easy to get around, it's charm is in one's ability to visit Japan as it is for those who live there.Guest review byJerome - 10.0
Everything about Gotemba is excellent and magical.
Everything about Gotemba is excellent and magical. Gotemba is one of the most significant epicenters for adventure and sightseeing in all of Japan. It is of course an exceptional gateway to hiking and adventuring on Mount Fuji using the Gotemba, Subashiri and Fujinomiya 5th Station traiheads. Hakone-Yumoto onsens/spas and Lake Ashi are also right in the area. Free shuttle buses offer a 20 minute ride straight to the Famous Gotemba Outlets if shopping for 15 hours is what you are in the mood for. Don't forget Odawara Castle just down the way or Fuji-Q and the Fuji Speedway just up the way, to name a few. Gotemba ROCKS! Mount Fuji and the Osunabashiri descending trail are really the #1 world class attraction among many. Furthermore, all the special local people who support all the vast Gotemba opportunities are the best and truly loved.Guest review byBrettUnited States - 8.0
I travelled from Tokyo to Shin-Fuji via Kodama Shinkansen.
I travelled from Tokyo to Shin-Fuji via Kodama Shinkansen. The fare is ¥5900 one way and travel time is nearly an hour. I stayed at Toyoko Inn which is 150 meters from the Shin Fuji station. There are lots of car rentals in the area but I was not able to get one as they only accept advance booking from their website. It took me 2 hours getting to and from the foot of Mt. Fuji, by bus and a 15 minute walk in the village to reach my destinations. Roads are quite narrow but they are common in Japan. Like most countryside places in Japan, Fuji is relatively clean, rich in nature, and lots of places to explore. My advice if you want to visit Fuji: 1. Travel by Shinkansen going to and from Fuji. 2. Rent a car so you can visit most of the attractions in and around Mt. Fuji. 3. Spend at leat 3-4 days in the area. 4. Bring cash with you always as most establishments are cash based. 5. Download Papago app on your phone so you can translate Japanese images, signs, etc if you're having difficulty understanding the language. That's it and enjoy your trip to Mt. Fuji.Guest review byMauro Jr - 8.0
If you love beach Shimoda is best for you.
If you love beach Shimoda is best for you. You can enjoy the white sand and wide beach line. Sunshine and twilight views from the seashore ate so excellent The sound of waves, the feel of sand, and the sun create a soothing environment, making it a perfect spot for relaxation and stress relief. Restaurant nearby are very few and most of those restaurants closes early and operates only weekends and holidays so you have plan were to eat your meals beforehand.Guest review bymichelynJapan - 10.0

Definitely visit the zoo if you have the opportunity. It’s very interactive with lots of cute animals. The in Granpal Park illumination was also really good! 7/11 and Family Mart have amazing egg sandwiches. The kadowaki tsuribashi suspension bridge and trails are worth the visit as well.Guest review byHeatherUnited States - 8.0

It is a nice city with ocean and good izakaya restaurant culture and a few good museums which we really enjoyed. It was quiet when we visited with very few tourists. City itself has a few good points of interest worth exploring and its located close to other cities which would make for good day trips.Guest review byKenDeNegriAustralia - 8.0

Izu is a wonderful varied destination with great food ,beaches and outdoor things to do ,It is a good place to go when you need a break from thee heat and crowds of summer in Japan.I very much recommend visiting Terrace Orange in Toi..It's a unique building built as both a tsunami refuge and community center with a lovely cafe and a restaurant with some of the freshest and nicest food on our trip .The architecture is fabulous and there is even a footbath acing the sea.Guest review byMichelleNew Zealand
