Absolutely worth the several hour drive from Riga. The night sky was one of the top 2 night skies I have ever seen, being able to see every star in the sky and the Milky Way streaking across the heavens. It was an absolute highlight of my Latvia & Estonia trip. There is spa available for day pass £25 for adult for 2.5 hours in Jurmala Spa hotel. No need to book in, walk in welcome. Excellent facilities and kids friendly lots to do. I went twice wile on my trip. Lots of lovely restaurants, bubs and shops to explore for all liking. Have been there probably 5 times, different properties and not always staying the night, sometimes just for a walk, sometimes for lunch, sometimes for the beach or for forest walk. Lilaste is for those who appreciate nature and don't want the pretentious wannabe posh style of Jurmala, but instead just to relax and feel nature and tranquility around you. Well there is a Livonian Community House, but we missed it. It stunning nature is enough for you, Kolka is worth a visit. Liepaja is absolutely the hidden gem of Latvia, our family loves it. The beach, the wonderful park near the beach with huge kids playground and places to do sports. Wonderful boulangeries, cafes, restaurant. Also our family loves to visit SPA, so we are used to spend a couple of hours in Liepaja Olympic Center SPA. Ventspils - city by the sea, which has Blue flag beach. It is not very crowded even in hot summer days. It is Baltic sea, it can be cold even in summer, it depends on the weather. But there are very nice sandy beaches. The city Ventspils - cozy city with many flowers, many parks for kids to play or just walk in the nature for anybody. Open air waterpark for kids.
