I took a long walk on the beach and only saw 2 other people the whole time. It was absolutely perfect for relaxing and getting away from the craziness of the big cities. Absolutely worth the several hour drive from Riga. The night sky was one of the top 2 night skies I have ever seen, being able to see every star in the sky and the Milky Way streaking across the heavens. It was an absolute highlight of my Latvia & Estonia trip. We celebrated my husband’s birthday in Kuldiga. Most restaurants close at 8 pm we only found one that stayed open until later. Kolka is a very sleepy small village, were the only thing to see is the spectacular and scenic Cape Kolka, were the Baltic Sea and the Bay of Riga meet. Well there is a Livonian Community House, but we missed it. It stunning nature is enough for you, Kolka is worth a visit. Secluded little town with vacation houses far and in between. Pine tree park is most enticing, with the view of the Baltic sea as a gift of amber after peaceful walk. And you do not have to travel to some tropical island in the Pacific to experience perfect white sand at the beach - it is all here. And no busy tourist attractions to distract you from experiencing nature at your own inner pace. Liepaja is absolutely the hidden gem of Latvia, our family loves it. The beach, the wonderful park near the beach with huge kids playground and places to do sports. Wonderful boulangeries, cafes, restaurant. Also our family loves to visit SPA, so we are used to spend a couple of hours in Liepaja Olympic Center SPA. Ventspils - city by the sea, which has Blue flag beach. It is not very crowded even in hot summer days. It is Baltic sea, it can be cold even in summer, it depends on the weather. But there are very nice sandy beaches. The city Ventspils - cozy city with many flowers, many parks for kids to play or just walk in the nature for anybody. Open air waterpark for kids.
