It's right next to the highway that connects ten minutes by car to the city, twenty minutes to the airport, ten minutes away from the Oasis train station, and the gateway to all cities in Morocco. Before this trip I'd only been to Marrakech in Morocco - so it was like going from the traditional Morocco to the business side of Morocco - very diverse - it felt like a cross between UK and Spain. The portuguese fortification on the seashore was spectacular.There is a wonderful beach nearby. Far less foreign tourists than other places. Mohammedia is a calm vibrant city that has everything for their residents and visitors. It is geographically placed between Casablanca and Rabat and the location is brilliant for people to commute and tour Morroco. Feels a bit like undiscovered St Tropez. Beautiful, striking views, nature, bird watching. Unfortunately, the way they cooked fish at most places was not up to par for us. Beni Mellal is cute enough.
Beni Mellal is cute enough. The town seems chill and gives the right kind of Moroccan vibes. Since we went during Ramadan, eating wasn't much of a highlight: in the daylight hours we were forced to accept McDonald's drive-thru before heading out on a day trip, but that night we had pizza at Davinci Restaurant, which was surprisingly quite good (particularly if you're familiar with pizza in Morocco) and overall well managed. The region is even more spectacular: drive over the mountain range to Bin El Ouidane (1 hour) and continue to Ouzoud Falls (1 hour more) via Azilal (about midway in between). Very professional, and courteous staff. They serve from the heart. I will not share what their wages are, but tipping is not against the rules. We went early to the waterfalls and it was really quiet which was great. The coffee shops, restaurants and shops weren't open. We weren't there for that so that was fine.There was lots of free parking. Falls were great and the trail interesting. We enjoyed a couple of days in Casablanca doing our own...
We enjoyed a couple of days in Casablanca doing our own thing. It was easy to walk around the key sites and we had a guided tour inside of the Hassan II Mosque. (We like Lonely Planet Guides and used this all over Morocco including Casablanca). After time spent inland it was nice to be by the coast and experience a few degrees lower temperatures. Casablanca does not have the old Medina's like Fez, Marrakesh and Rabat and there are less tourist/souvenir type shops so if you are after artisanal products both Fez and Marrakesh are better for that. We travelled to Casablanca on the train from Fez, it was excellent, we also travelled to Tangier, Rabat and back to Casablanca on the train. All tickets were easily bought online through Rail Ninja (via the Moroccan Train website). Trains ran on time and were quite comfortable (with varying quality of Airconditioning!)
