Oaxaca is a beautiful city, filled with great restaurants, shopping and friendly people. We walked everywhere and felt very safe wherever we were at any time of the day or night. The cultural center is a must see. Also the day trips are worth the time and they are very reasonable. We will return to Oaxaca and recommend it to our friends.
We are fans of Oaxaca coming here on several occasions. The soul of this old colonial city makes you forgetting your worries and dress of your daily life. If you are looking arnaud the real spirit of Mexico and he real values of simple things in life, then you’ll find it here: happiness, easy going life, unstresfull, people smiling, humble, nice and friendly. You can feel it at around corners, you can even dance on traditional music on the street and give a few pesos as a contribution which helps a lot the people leaving here. The handcrafted art is something special and unique in Oaxaca. You can’t leave without it! Just beautiful place where to stay with a wonderful climate.
Oaxaca - historic part of town is a true gem: old buildings being restored; lots of beautiful art galleries; local art is colorful and unique. Beautiful weaving and textiles by local Indian tribes - gorgeous handwork. Lots of places to dine and enjoy in the historic part of town. The breakfasts and lunches are not to be missed in La Quinta Real - historic part of town, a former monastery, beautiful interior...You must do the tour at the etnobitabical garden on grounds of Sto. Domingo Cathedral. Tours are in English.
I love Oaxaca City. The old colonial center is walkable and always interesting, full of people and life, with buskers, musicians, families, lovers and tourists out for a paseo, shopping, hustling, and entertaining. The food is renowned. Try Zandunga, Mesquite, Biznaga, La Popular. Los Pacos has a tasting dish of all 7 of the main moles. In Situ is a veritable museum of mezcals. The big market, Centro de Abastos, is vast, with very few tourists, but tons of local necessities. Lots of museums and gardens. And ancient ruins. And artisanal crafts. For language schools, check out Instituto Cultural Oaxaca. I could go on. See for yourself.
Oaxaca is a great and safe city to visit The best gastronomical state in Mexico Great for tourism, all tour agencies are affordable, well organized and great The people in Oaxaca is really nice and take care of tourism Great attractions like the city center, el andador, Hierve el Agua, Mitla, Monte Albán You don’t need to rent a car, taxis are cheap and common, the tours are better with a guide and cheap, also bilingual
Oaxaca is beautiful in its people, architecture and culture. The old city is gorgeous and very walkable with excellent and creative restaurants. It feels safe all the time and is central to great day trips to Monte Alban (don’t miss) and Hierve el Agua (worth the trip). Do a little research before you go and you will have a great time.
Oaxaca is an awesome place to visit, it has a large variety of traditions and beautiful culture. It is a great place to have a relaxing vacation. It’s food is delicious, exotic and super interesting. There are a lot of great and interesting places to visit and many places to learn about the traditional drink: Mezcal. Visit restaurant Boulenc, everything is delicious and special. We also enjoyed restaurant Los Danzantes. Both of them are very busy and don’t accept reservations on vacations , so be sure to arrive early!
Simplemente amo Oaxaca, por su comida, su chocolate, sus lugares y zonas arqueológicas. Sus playas y la hospitalidad de la gente. Es mi estado favorito de Mexico.
Oaxaca city and all of its people are some of the warmest, helpful and welcoming people I have met in Mexico. The Bnb that I stayed in, El Diablo y La Sandia, made my stay there so comfortable. They went out of their way to help me with some medical issues that I had. Also, the restaurant/bakery, Boulenc, was also very accommodating with my issues and I was able to enjoy my week stay there as comfortable as could be. I plan to go back next year!
Friendly and charming small village outside Oaxaca. Very glad we spent time here. From collectivo trip to Hierve del Agua, the ruins of Mitla within the village, our very nice Hotel Don Cenobio right in the center of town. Small shops -especially Guadelope's artistically hand painted (by her son)& filled with lovely hand made items, located on the corner across from Don Cenobio hotel; many artisans- especially "Artelar" fabulous traditional weaving and embroidery by Emiliano and Delfina; great food, especially Dona Chica. I could go on and on. We were definitely happy here.
Location is great! Staff and facilities top notch, pet friendly which is a bonus! Loved the little extras in the room. Although we had a small room it was perfectly equipped. Value for the basic room is great. I stay often in Oaxaca for work and decided to splurge a bit. Compared to a basic room around the area which are around $1000-$1500 in the high season, Hotel Los Amantes basic room includes a delicious breakfast and great amenities. Very much worth it. Will be back and want to check out some of the nicer rooms with bathtub!
The location is gorgeous, the room has everything you need, the hotel has snacks available throughout the day but the best part about this place is the staff, specifically Issa. I had a truly bad bout of food poisoning (not from Oaxaca but a town I had visited the day before) which peaked at 1am when she had her shift. She made me tea, helped call medical staff and went above and beyond to make me as comfortable as possible in an extremely uncomfortable situation. I am so truly grateful and was able to finally get to some decent sleep.
Centrally located and minutes away from many major points of interest, Hotel Casa Divina is an excellent choice for Oaxaca newbies. The entire staff was incredible, but Paty and Sergio in particular made our stay fantastic. Paty helped me find a quiet place to work, and Sergio made extra effort to share his knowledge about his city with us. They made us feel at home. While not the most modern rooms, everything was incredibly clean and comfortable. Some of the best hotel pillows I’ve experienced, and the water pressure was phenomenal.
The hotel is beautiful and the location could not possibly be better - you're five minutes' walk from the Zocalo, five minutes from Santo Domingo, and about 15 minutes from Xochimilco by foot. Restaurants are everywhere. The downside to being centrally located is the street noise, which is probably an issue everywhere in Centro Oaxaca. If you want quiet, ask for a room in the back of the building - but know that you'll then have no view. The beds were on the hard side, which we appreciated - very comfortable for us.
New, unique, and constantly improving, I visited for several nights on two occasions. It's a hostel made with travelers in mind, with flexible check-in/check-out policies and a place to leave your bags before your bus or flight. Marine is a wealth of knowledge about the area and how to move effectively and easily within Oaxaca and beyond using public and private conversation. Her vision for the hostel is inspiring and it was gratifying to see how much it had progressed just in the week between my two stays.
We absolutely loved this comfortable and friendly family-run hotel. The pool is very welcoming and appreciated after a day in the heat. The landscaping is pretty and keeps everything private. The rooftop deck is a nice place to hang out too. There's a nice community among guests and we enjoyed meeting/chatting with other people staying there. If you rent a car, there's a convenient large parking lot right in back. If we return to Oaxaca, this hotel would absolutely be our first choice.
Staff very helpful, especially Samantha, who seemed to do a lot around the hotel. She was constantly busy, but would take time to help out anyone who needed it. She also had a lot of shifts and would help out with breakfasts, checking people in, making dinner reservations for us, etc.. Embodies cultural spirit of Oaxaca through generous artisinal gifts for guests and decor of the hotel. It had a comfortable, homey feeling, like returning to one's casa instead of a typical hotel room.
Excellent location near the zocalo, restaurants and places to eat. Very walkable! It is the cutest budget, boutique hotel with a GORGEOUS, lush courtyard. Rooms are simple, clean, and the property is safe with friendly and accommodating staff. There’s a delicious restaurant right next door and a coffee shop on the next block. There are many beautiful places to stay in Oaxaca, but this place really gives you the most value while keeping prices accessible. I will definitely return!
Oaxaca City
The place is amazing. Stuff is super nice and friendly. Food tasty. Nice roof terrace to relax. Central location of Oaxaca. And what is the most important...the room was very clean what wasn't the case in other location in Mexico. Highly recommend! If I come back one day, I will come back to Comala. The only one thing I can point out is a loudly street, but it didn't bother us at all, because our window didn't go out on the street.
Every detail about the Hotel was great! The Staff was friendly ,professional and helpful and went beyond their duties. The location was excellent. We walked just about everywhere. Staff sign us up for tours and taxis when needed. Coffee Cafes and restaurants abound. But the real gem was the Hotel's Restaurant which served a mix of Mexican, Italian and American cuisines. This is my go to Hotel on my next trip back to Oaxaca!
Nardazul is an oasis, aesthetic design & pleasant details. I loved the fresh flowers in our room! Friendly staff & super service for everything we needed. Delicious breakfast, with a new local speciality every single day. We stayed for 10 nights, attending a wedding and experiencing the Day of the Dead festivities. We couldn’t have chosen a better place for our very first visit to Oaxaca & Mexico.
The hotel was very clean and had a great breakfast. The staff went above and beyond to help us in our trip to Mexico. Even though our Spanish is pretty bad, they understood us and spoke some English as well. Even though the location is far from Centro, it was convenient to be away from all the city noice and celebration from dusk to dawn. I definitely would stay here again for another Oaxaca trip.
the best staff in Oaxaca! they helped me out in a real bind. I left my backpack (with important items) in a restaurant between puerto escondido and Oaxaca and they coordinated the shipping back to Oaxaca. otherwise, the hotel is quite nice too. clean, quiet, reasonably priced, our double room even had a mini fridge, which has been a rare thing in my travels throughout Mexico (7 months or so).
Oaxaca City
This hotel is perfectly situated in the city center on a quiet street. Our room (king with terrace) was spacious with a big two sink bathroom. The breakfasts are delicious and prompt at a community table, and there is an inner courtyard if you just want to relax. This hotel had some of the best art selection I've seen in all my stays in Oaxaca! Will most certainly be back.
Oaxaca is a relatively expensive city compared to many in Mexico. Many Mexican Nationals and others from around the world visit here. This hotel offers good value- If you want a quiet oasis right in the middle of Centro- this is it. No, it’s not the Ritz - but it works- and it works well. Staff is exceptionally helpful. Walk out the door and it’s two blocks to the square.
The best bed in Mexico! at last we found a place with king size beds. Central location, very cozy rooftop terrace with a small pool. Fantastic breakfast amd as usual in Mexico, super friendly staff. We requested a late check-out and they were really flexible and let us use our room until 4pm. Wish we had spent our first stay in Oaxaca at this hotel.
Oaxaca City
After our third visit, still there are not enough words to describe the colours, flavours, cultures nor excitement of been surprised by Oaxaca. Casa Carlota blends the vibrant contemporary Mexico with the many ancient and creative faces of Oaxaca it has easy access to main attractions, staff anticipating needs with warm smiles 24/7
The owner Rosario received us with mezcal and was very attentive to anything we needed. This hospitality was beyond any service I have ever received. The Hotel is close to everything in the heart of Oaxaca. Our purpose was to be here during the day of celebration and the location of this hotel is perfect.
Alejandro is brilliant. Great English, good sense of humour, solid knowledge of Oaxaca. You wouldn't find anyone more helpful in Mexico. The place is in the perfect spot to explore the historic Centro, both north and south ends. It is quiet at night. There is a terrace and our room had a balcony.
Happy Express Hotel is simply the best choice we could have done for our stay in Oaxaca de Juarez. An hidden gem which is perfect under all aspects. We arrived early in the morning and the room was ready. If you are choosing your accomodation for your stay in Oaxaca, don't look further.
