We really liked the design, as well as the cleanliness and scent of the place, which you notice as soon as you enter. Everything was spotless, and the amenities were very nice. The extra robes, sandals, and shopping bag offered for use during your stay were a thoughtful touch. We enjoyed the welcome mezcal and the friendly staff. Communication was great, and the little city guide with recommendations was very well done. It would be nice to add an online map in addition to the printed maps they provide. Our small private patio was perfect to use at night, and while we didn’t get a chance to try the pool or bar, they looked lovely. Everyone was very kind, especially Ivan and Rebecca, who were amazing.

Super recommend this hotel! The rooms are new and spacious, the pool area is great, they clean the room everyday and the location is quiet but still close to all bars, restaurants and the beach. But most important the staff is super kind and helpful, especially Selene that helped us a lot and with a smile. Definitely stay at casa Marisa when you come to Puerto Escondido.

This is a glorious gem of a seaside retreat. There are fresh white cushions on the seaside and poolside loungers. White cotton hammocks and even a swinging bed are all tucked in around the tropical garden facing the rolling sea. The beach is largely undeveloped though there is a small restaurant nearby. The resort's communal kitchen works beautifully for tea, coffee, and includes the use of a fridge and stove so you can cook if you wish. The room was decorated with bamboo and seagrass with a lovely seaview balcony.

The location was great, close to Playa del Amor and a little away from the main strip. This meant it was quieter away from the clubs but still very close to the action. The hotel is run by a family and they are amazing. Dani (Daniel) was very helpful and responsive for everything. The food and beverage at the in-house restaurant were amazing as well. I believe most rooms have a direct beach view. Hotel rooms were recently renovated.

Great historic sites.

Great historic sites. Downtown traffic jams that make walking faster than driving. Poor signage, no english information. Lots of wall art/graffiti, good food. Dusty and polluted badly at street level when hot/dry. Driving 4 miles to a great breakfast stop, took 3.5 hrs, over 2 hrs in traffic jam. The city, as everything down here, was covered in trash, public restrooms mostly dirty with toilet seats removed, charging for TP or use, with all plumbing loose, make-shift, broken, or improvised. They really need free trash pickup, some plumbers, street sweepers, and civic pride. Otherwise, it would be awesome.

The beaches are clean, beautiful, and vary in size and how...

The beaches are clean, beautiful, and vary in size and how swimmable they are. We stayed in Zicatela, which is fairly central. There were not as many tourists as I expected for 3/24-3/28. The street is wide, the beach is lined with restaurants, umbrellas, and chaise loungers. The nightclub noise was not a problem because our hotel had good windows and AC. To the south La Punta has a narrow street of shops, bars, restaurants, and hotels. There were more people wandering around and we enjoyed the vibe. There's a lot of new constuction in the area, so I don't know if that would be bothersome if we had stayed there. The beach is long and wide. The waves were big. There was a surfing area for beginners at the far south end. Our favorite beach was Carrizalillo. We had delicious food, snorkeled, played in the waves, and loved watching all the local families enjoying the beach. We walked to Playa Bococho where we participated in the release of the newborn sea turtles. $200 pesos per person. We also went on a boat and saw sea turtles, humpback whales (end of season so only 4), sting ray, flying fish, and hundreds of spinner dolphins. $38 per person with tour Embarcación "Lupita" - Jesus Altamirano Escamilla. English and Spanish speaking. Another great activity was horseback riding to the hot springs. We booked this through TripAdvisor, but it's available locally. The city of Puerto Escondido is packed with small shops, fruit markets, street vendors of all things, including lots of fresh local seafood. We ate at a restaurant recommended by a friend and also our guidebook. It is Las Juquilenas and we really enjoyed the colorful atmosphere and all the food.

Santa Cruz is a perfect area with the main market right there and many really good restuarants all nearby. Also only a 15-20 minute walk or short cab ride to downtown Huatulco. It is easy to get around Santa Cruz and never felt unsafe at anytime. We were right in front of the marina so easy to find a boat excursion of which there were many. Every Sat.there is a local market in the l park, of all hand made products, live music, and local food vendors. Great way to spend half a day.

I loved that every restaurant, store, shop, was independently owned. Charming. We arrived via a bus and a collectivo - did plenty of walking. The main strip has plenty of spots to eat and if you checked out the corners and so forth you found more spots to explore. A couple of fruit markets or buy mangoes and avocados from people wandering by selling. Street vendors ie mainly jewellery. The beaches are smallish and it seems that the Mazunte-Rinconto beach are one and the same. Lots of new age stuff (yoga, breathwork). Massages were Canadian priced (did not try to beach one, next time). Arrive with cash (seriously) - there are a few ATM machines but the service charges are too much. Some places take cards but some do not (and really paying with cash ensures that the business gets the full value of your money). There are two main streets that are one way. Local music that wrapped up at a decent hour at several of the bars. Near another town there is a lagoon that is worthwhile visiting and we participated in a turtle release at sunset.

A great clothing optional beach - you can walk a mile unclothed, and the restaurants on the beach do not require clothing at the outside tables.. Some of the reviews complained about a scarcity of unclothed people at Zipolite despite its tradition, but we did not find that to be the case. We stayed at Hotel Nude (NooDAY), which had two great swimming pools, one by the beach. The beach pool became a party spot on some nights with a DJ and lots of naked or topless kids dancing in the pool. The hotel was simple, with occasinally untrustworthy hot water, but the AC was excellent. The town was interesting and had an assortment of excellent restaurants for dinner: Venice for pizza and grappa (a real gas-fired pizza oven!) , Comedor Afe for grilled fish. El Aquimista has great reviews but it had dry grilled snapper and soggy fish tacos when we ate dinner there. Hotel Nude had wonderful shrimp pasta and mixed fish soup. Zipolite is ifficult to get get to: you have to go to an airport like MEX which has flights to HUX, and then take a long taxi ride to Zipolite. But worth it when you arrive.

This strip of Oaxacan coast from Huatulco to Puerto Escondido offers the communities of Puerto Angel, Zipolite, San Agustinillo, and Mazunte. Each has their own character.... and having explored these areas a number of times since 1989, I would say that San Agustinillo offers the best blend of hotels, restaurants, and beaches.

Salina Cruz is a very peaceful place offering some beaches where surfing can be performed. It was a tiny seaport that grew up due to the oil refinery, not really recommended as a tourist destination by itself since there are limited facilities, with lot of eateries but very few good restaurants, one of them being Santa Julia inside the Misión de San José Hotel. Many secondary streets are in need of maintenance or not paved, although main avenues are in more or less good condition. Most of the traveling here has to do with oil or navy issues.

Oaxaca is one of the best cities in Mexico. The very traditional center is like walking down a street in Spain. It is very clean and safe. There are many churches and great archeological museums to visit. Outside the city we visited the archeological site if Mt. Alban and also several nearby small villages.
