What’s not to like from it! I loved that the hotel is kind of concealed within the tropical rainforest, which is great if you want to get away from the everyday routine and focus on rest. The staff is super friendly, the amenities are superb and accessible. There’s always something to do here, and even if there wasn’t, they have their own private beach which is just immense. I’m already planning my next stay. My time at Istirinchá was that good!

This hotel was obviously an exquisite resort in its day. It is so big, it feels like you have the place to yourself! We came off season and were treated wonderfully by all the staff. The manager takes personal time for his guests. The Suites have an amazing view of the beach. The city is quiet. Our experience was very peaceful and relaxing. The food was delicious and the prices very reasonable. $10 CAN Breakfast buffet till noon.

The property was very central of greeting restaurants, grocery stores and shopping. It’s directly on the beach with easy access to the sand. The hotel provides beach chairs and umbrellas to their guests with bar service. The staff were extremely helpful and nice! The cleaning staff left our room very clean and smelling good every day. We stayed one night in the Veracruz City but stayed in the Xalapa (capitol of Veracruz) which you can get to by comfortable bus for $15 U.S. for three nights. Drink Cafe Lencero hot milk poured into expresso from a pot held high, creating the foam. Friday and Saturday nights - local lively music style called Son Jarocho to be seen , with local dancers, at La Casona de Beaterio near Parque Juarez. We visited small villages called Coatepec(coffee growing and roasting - many tour options), Xico (costumes, masks, restaurant El Meson Xiqueño) and Naolinco (many shops of handmade leather goods -very inexpensive, several excellent restaurants on the plaza). Taxis to each from Xalapa are about 200 pesos., or short trip between Coatepec and Xico.

The hotel was clean and comfortable.

The hotel was clean and comfortable. At one time it had probably been elegant. Parking was convenient and secure. All rooms were upstairs as was the lobby and front desk. The listed rate for a room with one bed was less that the special rate we got for two beds and we could have done with one, but my Spanish was not good enough to explain and the second bed gave us an extra blanket. There was no heat and it was cold enough the poor girl at the desk was bundled up and still shivering. The hotel is located in the midst of the market which made getting out the next day a little difficult. If you wanted to immerse yourself in the local culture it would be an excellent place. It was a bit noisy for my wife. But it was sufficient for our needs that night.

Many seaside and river activities offered here. Dunes are unique. Beach tranquil and water temperature perfect. Excellent seafood served by many beachside restaurants. Popular for family vacations. Easy access by bus and taxi. Archaeological sites nearby. Playa Chachalacas a great experience for my family who enjoyed 4x4's on the beach, a sea and river boat trip, and the pleasures only found during a beach vacation.

Honestly not sure why Veracruz makes the guidebooks.

Honestly not sure why Veracruz makes the guidebooks. The centro is probably only 20% occupied with most of the buildings crumbling, the malecon isn't anything to write home about (and doesn't have much of a street food scene despite suggestions otherwise), and food prices seemed high and I wasn't overly impressed by any of my meals. I found previous stop Orizaba and (even moreso) subsequent stop Coatepec far more enjoyable and worthwhile and if I could do it over again I'd skip Veracruz and spend more time in Coatepec and the other small towns around Xalapa in Mexico's zona cafetera, which is one of the prettiest areas I've been in Mexico and did have some great food that lived up to the reputation of Veracruz state on that front.

Maybe the prettiest and most polished non-touristic centro area I've been in Mexico, and while their isn't a massive tourist checklist (mostly it's parks, vibes, and great food) their archeological museum might be the best museum in the country outside Mexico City's with a focus on the local Olmec history. Nearby small towns like Coatepec, Xico, and Orizaba also stand out as some of Mexico's prettiest Pueblos Magicos.

Orizaba has done a great job of organizing tourism with a single ticket that allows you to see all the sites--museums, history, teleferico. Amazing coffee here and the Art Museum with early Diego Riveras was a favorite. In the town of Mendoza nearby, there is an amazing trail along the Rio Blanco, Paseo de Los Ahuehuetes, that we found by accident and loved! A very charming town! Great tacos!
