We came to Roermond for a wedding, and we were very pleasantly surprised. It was our first visit, and what a very pretty town we discovered. We stayed on the outskirts, in a very nice hotel. We wandered through the old churches, and everywhere we went was lovely and clean. It's not a high octane town, but for a few days of chill out it was very pleasant. The restaurants on the waterfront looked lovely, it's just a shame we didn't discover them until it was time to leave! We had a very quick look around an incredible outlet mall, just wish we'd had more time. It honestly felt on a par with Florida mall - well almost anyway! It seems to be a great location for cycling and walking but we just stay overnight to break up long journeys. Small town full of character - parking is easy - restaurants and hotels are all near one another and some overlook the Maas river. A delightful stop but be aware that the restaurants are open all day but kitchens tend to close by nine o'clock at night although hotel bars stay open until 10. To me personally Thorn is undoubtedly one of the hidden gems in Nederland. It is pretty small village but well connect with the nearby main cities. Thorn is very close to the Dutch - Belgian border and Mass river is the border between the two countries here. It is a pretty small quiet place with plenty of cobblestoned narrow roads ready for you to walk or bike. Every white house poses add an unique dimension to the beauty of this small village. Not to mention it has a fascinating history to its white houses which is quite the contrary to the classical Dutch architecture. You could explore a bit in internet to find a lot of its history. If time permit, the museum is the must visit as it offers a lot about the local culture & history. For kids it is a special attraction as they can do a nice treasure hunt! There are a plenty of eateries big medium small which fits the budget of everyone! The place feel quite cozy specially the eateries & restaurants which are mainly located mostly two sides of the church on one of the cobblestoned road. When you keep walking down the archetypical cobblestoned narrow streets , you will surely get lost in your memory. You will continue keep clicking your camera as there are numerous photo options waiting for you that you will surely slow down ! This is a place to take a pause from your busy city life, relax, rejuvenate & have an absolute immersive experience which you will surely cherish for ever!!! It could be best visited during summer sunny days as it will offer you longer days to walk, to bike or just relax on the bank of Mass river!!! The guesthouse was lovely, I really enjoyed the food in the restaurant with plenty of choice. The staff were friendly. There’s beautiful scenery and lovely walks. There is a lot of wildlife to see in the area with lakes and a small beach. Lovely little village totally destroyed during the second world war but totally rebuilt, quaint open areas lots of bars and restaurants in all directions, everyone we met was friendly and polite and enjoyed a conversation at every opertunity, well worth a stop, Overloon is only up the road with a huge WW2 museum to look around and the British cemetery for the fallen there too it's a great visit ( if you like your war history)Guest review byJohnUnited Kingdom - 10.0

A cosy town with friendly people. One can take a ferry across the Maas river to other villages. Nothing is far and it is great for biking and walking/hiking. excellent quality hotel, super friendly staff go over and above. hotel location perfect. car park available or municipal car park we used just down the road at reasonable price. Our only reservation, although the rooms were superior quality we were travelling as two couples the rooms we had requested and the reason we were staying there was the river view at the front of the hotel. The other couple had a fabulous room at the front overlooking the river as requested and we had a room at the rear with no view only brick walls of the other building and another room close by looking into ours. We asked to be moved but to no avail. This was such a shame as it was the reason we had booked it.
