Everything. Given the remote location, I thought the facilities and restaurants would be basic. However, they turned to be much better than what I thought. If someone visiting Svalbard, this is the place for you. Advanced booking is advised.

Peaceful 4-night stay in Svalbard. I was concerned about noise from the bar downstairs based on other guests comments but there was no music on at night during our stay. luckily we got the apartment on the top floor and really enjoyed the roof window in the bedroom. comfortable beds. decent wifi speed. Co-op and shopping mall next door. all staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. I left my backpack on the tour bus and front desk staff helped me get it back right away. really appreciated. we would definitely return to the lodge in the future.

We loved having a large space all to ourselves! The lodge is equipped with a kitchen that had everything we needed to make breakfast and dinners when we wanted (which help saved is money), other than not having a sink/running water. The view was amazing and we made sure to take advantage of the chairs outside to eat dinner at. The beds were comfortable and the staff we met were friendly! We personally loved having the dog kennel right outside and made sure to say hi to them each day as we were passing. The lodge was right outside of the main village, about a 15-20 minute walk from the center of town. However, the tourist information center has bikes that you can rent for about 40 NOK a day (~$4 USD), making the trip an easy one. Most of the tour companies will pick up and drop off at the lodge, so that wasn't a problem for us either. Overall, a great stay! We were actually quite sad leaving Tommy's Lodge and Svalbard!

    Longyearbyen is unique.

Longyearbyen is unique. It is a small settlement up in the Arctic in a stark but beautiful landscape. It is very different to other places I have visited. We stayed for 4 nights and included a couple of trips on 2 of the 3 full days we spent there. It was a bonus for us that on the third day, 14th August 2025, it happened to be the 100 year anniversary of Norway's sovereignty over Svalbard. The town is very quiet and there are not many bars and restaurants but we were very happy to find the Karlsberger pub and it's sister restaurant opposite. These are 2 establishments which are popular with the local residents and are very lively and friendly with great food and drinks. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It is very easy to walk around Longyearbyen with museums and old mines to visit or you can walk down to the shore and see what wildlife turns up.

Barentsburg is a charming little town and somewhat off the tourist track: but it is worth spending at least two to three days because it has some very unique features. I liked the variety of shops and restaurant offerings.

I liked the variety of shops and restaurant offerings. Everything was in walking distance from each other. Depending upon your interests there seemed to be many different kinds of activities to do. I did the Mine 3 Tour and the Svalbard Husky Dogs on Wheels activity. Both I thought were unique experiences and worthwhile. The impression that I got was that there is even a lot more to do during the winter months. Enjoyed eating nice meals at Mary-Ann’s Polarrig and Radisson Blue’s restaurants.
