- From $101.22 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.1Very Good - What previous guests thought, 346 reviewsSuper comfy, warm and fully equipped room with plenty heating options, comfortable bed, very clean, and the host super nice. I accidentally mistaken and picked a wrong date, when I asked her if its ok to change it for the next day she agreed and asked me to cancel the original reservation. Unfortunately, i didn't understand that at the time and didn't cancel it. Only later as we arrived I came to realize that she lost that night as it was still booked on me. I felt horrible and offered to fully pay for that extra night. The kind hostess said she won't charge me for that, and believed me that it was an honest mistake. Later that evening she even dropped by to give us milk and muffins she have made! Lovely place, lovely hostess. Thank you!Guest review byBenIsrael

I found Kaka Point had a lovely peaceful community vibe. The weather turned during my short stay there, but that didn't spoil my walk out to the lighthouse at Nugget Point. It was extremely windy with very rough seas, which made me appreciate how hard shipping must have been back in the day.Guest review byJudyNew Zealand - 8.0

Owaka is a small village, it has an excellent Inn especially for accommodation. The village has a small but well stocked supermarket, it has two restaurants and two cafes. It is quiet and peaceful. It is well located for visits to sites along the coast. It has a modern museum that gives you information on the history of Owaka it also had an art exhibition.Guest review byArthurUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Comfortable beds, nice restaurant and bar-although we only bought drinks. The ladies toilets were not cleaned thoroughly and the lighting was very dull in the kitchen. McLean falls are definitely worth the walk.Guest review byFawcett - 8.0

Loads of wildlife to watch- we saw bellbirds, fantail, a yellow eyed penguin, sealions all within a few meters of where we were staying. We walked over to Jacks Blow hole following the doc track beside the accommodation. We were down for a School reunion but have previously visited sites such as McLean falls, Purakanui falls, Surat bay, Cannibal bay, Curio Bay, Horseshoe falls. All well worth a look around. This is some of New Zealands presitine rainforest and home to many bird species as well as the world's rarest penguins - Hoiho - Yellow Eyed Penguins.Guest review bySarahNew Zealand - 8.0

Balclutha is a small rural country town, there all the facilities you need, plenty of places to eat out and shops etc. It is not a city with loads of night life. Dunedin is about an hour away It's a good base to explore the Catlins and the south of the South Island of NZ. The beach at Kaka point is only 20 minutes away there is a street food caravan serves excellent fish and chips. The drive from Balclutha to Cromwell, Queens Town, Wanaka, Milford sound and Lake Takapo are breath taking.Guest review byAnthonyUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Amazing place and very central to all the amazing walks and sights to see in the Caitlin’s. Great pub for drinks and meals, shops, petrol and a cool playground for the kids! The information centre/museum etc was also great with very knowledgeable staff.Guest review byBellaNew Zealand - 8.0
An historic wee town, that is quaint and quirky.
An historic wee town, that is quaint and quirky. We enjoyed the pub meal in the local hotel. The cafe across the road has great coffee and food. Sadly most of the shops were not open, and would only open on appointment. Im sure that if people stopped for an hour or so on the way through to Central Otago, they would find a hidden wee gem and a dollar spent in this community is worth more than a dollar spent in the tourist towns. Support local!Guest review byVickiNew Zealand
